Our topic was the quality of fish wild caught vs captive bred amd my point is if done right you can breed captive bred fish to look just as well as wild caught or even better if taken the time and done correctly- not throwing a bunch of different fish in a pond. I'm talking about throwing a bunch of the best looking particular species of fish in the same pond and breeding them- just like Asian arros. It can be done and that is my point.
There's already nice looking captive bred Zingus and Temensis, etc is there not?

Look man, you are right "if done correctly" breeding cichla can get quality offspring. But my original point was that people who get an actual wild caught cichla will have much better odds of it being an exceptional looking fish than one that is not. That is what all the old timers used to say when I first started & I believe it is true. The one other thing they would say was not all "wild caught" labeled cichla are wild caught. There are only enough vendors to count on 1 hand that people know they can trust with that label. And they pay the price to those accomplished & reputable vendors.
