Introduction and Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I appreciate all the support. I have lurked on these boards for some time now and have gleaned quite a bit of knowledge from you guys and gals. As for my RO/DI should I still run my RO setup? I can tee off b4 the DI. Otherwise should I just run sediment and carbon block? The automated water change will probably change about 15 gal/day. This can be adjusted with changes in bio load.

I still need to finish:

Glass top
actuator covers in the front
wiring for the actuators
power to the sump
Automatic water change valve and timer
doors for back side of stand
and much more.

then on to the rest of the room...

Yea, awesome setup. As far as your question, too many bioballs can not be a bad thing. Its true that only so much BB can grow in relation to the amount of waste your tank produces, but more surface area can not have a negative effect. The BB will spread across the surface area, and maybe each bio-ball on its own will be less efficient, but overall the important thing is just that you have enough surface area available to house the right amount of BB. As long as you do, too much will not be a problem, it will just spread the BB across the surface area. In fact, I would just use all the bio-balls, why not? I have a question though. You have automated your water changes - are you still planning on siphoning the sand every now and then in order to remove any waste that may be trapped in there? I would if I were you. Good luck in all though, this setup is amazing. And I agree with JD7, I think that setup would rock with two leo's instead of the motoros. Maybe just one of each, as you know, leo's are very expensive.

Does anyone know who will have Leo's available in a month or so? I was leaning toward motoros because of the price and location. I can drive to pick them up at Pat's. These would be my first rays and if something should happen to go wrong... $250 vs $1000+. Leos are something to consider though, I agree they would look sweet on black sand.

pdude your reef top is amazzzing........ I say get 1 motoro then a month or 2 later get a leo

How much does a Leo cost? I have not been able to find any for sale. Does anyone have any experience with www.aquascapeonline.com ? They have marble motoros and flower rays available. I would prefer #1 Leo #2 Marble Motoro #3 motoro #4 Flower. I want to get a pair for potential future breeding. I can grow out pups but I definitely want a matching pair or 1.2

It is a surface overflow in the backside under the painting. I have a durso standpipe to help silence the waterfall of 1200gph over the weir.

Wow that is an insane set-up! Some rays would look awesome in there, but as someone said, I dont think the height is tall enough for an arowana, especially a big silver!

i would just use sediment and carbon blocks.... and run about 20 gallon a day auto change... bigalsonline.com get some seachem matrix for the sump works better submerged than bio balls 4L is 20$ cant beat it
