hmm... blackwater, youve sorta inspired me lol. i may start rippng up the eurasian milfoil i see when i go fishing. (eurasian milfoil is terribly invasive in CT)

How will being a pilot help you remove invasives. Or was that just so we would know you are a pilot?

Good luck young man, you can make a difference...........

Being a pilot gives a free offering to the Non-Profit when we need to fly somewhere and/or something needs to be flown somewhere. Equip, meetings ect. . So we don't have to take the funds out of the account to pay a pilot 20-150 per hour. Same goes for the boat.

Non-Profits still have to pay people. I could careless if people thought I was a garbage man. LOL, most of them probably make more $$ than I do.

he can travel all over and rally support for his organization :naughty:

you do know to have a burmese you need an r.o.c permit ?

Reptile of concern. :P but thats not hard to get i say you team up with a local herpotology club or animal shelter and go on invasive species hunts that way youd have people who could house them instead of just killing all of them. for snake heads you have to kill them :(...

goodluck i saw a 2 foot long pleco on the saint johns river shore dead:WHOA:

its porbally futher out of hand then you thought

Thx Unholy... I don't understand why people think it's a bad idea. I think it would be cool as hell running around barbarically catching wild animals and fish!!!!!!

GTS I am just thinking of South FL becaus ethis is like my home base. I am all over the place, but usually Miami is my home. I guess I shgould say Everglades to generalize everything down around this area. I know they have a lot of issues on your side also. I am just getting sick of reading all this stuff about all the pythons and Monitors. Also I did kind of an experinment with a snakehead and was horrified with what I found. I am not interseted in discussing that at this time, but lets just say it is a little more of a problem in enclosed bodies of water than I had originally thought. I just think something needs to be done. I know there are people out there doing it...just not enough!!

I agree that south florida is ground zero so to speak. I am on senator nelsons mailing list and based off the stuff he sends me he is very concerned. I know he and the governer are considering starting a bounty. I might actually be moving to miami soon. I would love to get a python/monitor hunting posse together.

As being in the process of setting up a non-for profit, it is not easy or cheap. GL.... Also it is hard to get a grant for this before you become a NPF. You have to be one first most of the time.

Very nice guys thx GTS I heard about the possible bounty. This is what made me get my butt up and start looking into things again.... Then I thought Why didn't I follow through with this??
Mike I am def aware of how difficult it is The only thing I have going for me is a good buddy started up 3 on his own for somewhat similar practices and they all worked One of the more odd ones is ......He collects water samples from around the world via at depths via scuba. Very cool but who ever thought you could get a grant for something like that???? Kind of why I am a little hyped up about this. I have learned though as in any business adventure don't get too excited lol I will play the hand and let the cards fall where they may. Or whatever that saying is.

While I admire your intentions, I'd focus on the more 'immediate threat', as well as more likely to be controlled. For the most part if it's aquatic, you're going to have a hard time controlling it without affecting other species.

Most of the invasives have found their niche down here...Pleco's, Oscars, Cichlids, Pacu, etc. Snakeheads dont really pose much of a threat..they are doing fine and like others have found their niche in the system. We have more than enough waterways, that you'll run into SH with Cichla, natives, and others and see there hasn't been the impact you would see somewhere up north where they are limited to smaller rivers, streams, or lakes. Actually our biggest problem are the Pleco's and their nesting habits in out canal walls...eroding away.

These are all on the same lines as our Iguanas, macaws, etc...try and get rid of them...there are a few more to replace each you eliminate.

I would focus on the Python/Monitor problems we are having. Atleast there not only do you have a better chance, there is propoed federal backing, as well as scientific study (nesting locations, tracking) that has been in play to help.

Superlaz I can agree with you on everything except the snakeheads. I feel the reptiles are a more immediate threat. Like the Boas eating our alligators and the monitors snagging the eggs ect. ect.. I have to say though, in an enclosed body of water the snakeheads are a big issue. As stated before I can go to some lakes and the only thing you wil find are Cobras.... They completetly decimated the local population. I did a small experinment kind of by mistake in an eclosed situation with a baby snakehead. I actually didn't know he was there at the time (I think I have to say that :) ). Within one week he totally destroyed every living thing around him. This was just a baby I am talking about a couple hundred mollies....which led me to the Snakehead forum to try and identify him. He is now deceased :( which I think is horrible, but thats the law. I don't think they should be illegal to own at this point as a lot of the reptiles, but not too much I could do about that.
I do agree though The Reptiles are of main concern at this point. Trying to control snakeheads and other aquatics in an open enviroment could prove to be extremely time consuming while trying not to harm the natives is a huge issue.
