Catch me a Macaw!
Really though, this is a great idea. If you can get the proper licenses/permits to export these animals to places where they are legal as pets or otherwise it could become quite profitable. Having to kill them all would make me inclined to let nature take its course.
Yes, it is nature. Within our own lifetimes it is startling to see ecosystems transformed by displaced species but over larger periods of time these changes are very natural. Animals travel and evolve, whether by floating to new continents on pieces of driftwood, or by human intervention. I think it's kind of remarkable that these animals can survive there with all those damn gators.

I agree with you. Killing these things is horrible. As for the reptiles I am not sure of the legailties of exporting yet. Maybe a Non Profit isn't the way to go and it could be somewhat lucrative? As for Snakeheads I am not sure of the legaliteies either. LOL, one time I asked what would one be willing to pay for a snakehead and I sware I thought I was going to get banned from this site. I underdstand why the Mods got all upset, but as human nature would have it they jumped to conclusions pretty quick. I guess they thought I was trying to set up a nice out in the open "underground illegal snakehead operation in the US. I guss I should've been more careful with my wording. Anyway, at least if they had to be killed maybe there would be a market for food value. I am not sure because then you might have to deal with the fda and blah blah..could turn into a real mess. I think a liscence would be too difficult to take them out of the country alive. Probably not even possible. DEATH TO ALL SNAKEHEADS :( sound horrible.
As for a "tree hugger" kind of way unfortunately I don't think it is right to allow some of these things to go on wether it means killing them or not.
So much human ignorance. You ever here of how mongoose got to Hawaii??? The ship brought rats, the rats ate the ground nesting birds which never had any enemies, we brought mongoose to kill the rats. WOW!!!! Mongoose love eggs, and what would be easier?? Chaseing down a rat and killing it? Or just sneakinginto a nest and feasting on yummy eggs? I think they did pretty good a blending in afterawhile, but it had a massive impact.
This seems like it could have many avenues to go down. Ia m not sure what the best way would be to tackle something like this yet.

If someone could produce a reliable methodology for tracking pythons it would help a lot. The most imminent threat to the environment down there is the pythons. Unlike the other species that are non-native, a python is actually a threat to humans.

Like I said if I am down there it would be nice to get a posse together.

GTS I promise you if anything cool happens I will let you know andmaybe you could get down for a day or 2...I just spoke with my "airboater" buddie. He is up for it...I am in the process of figuring out how to sell skin and meat right now to offset the cost. If not the NonProfit would be the only way to go. If they set up a bounty I am not sure how many grants are out for what I am trying ot do. I know they gave a few grants out for people to study and track, but not to destroy/remove.

I was screwing around with this oon and off for the last 2 years. I am considering starting a Non-Profit Organization once again to help rid South FL of invasive species. The Boas and Monitors are getting out of control, as are the snakeheads and many other species. Someone else on here I thought was considering this or tried this before. IF YOU SEE THIS THREAD PLEAE GIVE ME A SHOUT!!!!
Anyway, I will be getting with a couple locals around here to help. I have 4x4s, bassboat, 25ft. cruiser, access to multiple airboats ect. I am a pilot with access to aircraft and have my 6 Pac if that helps anything.
If anyone else is interested please let me know. I would like to start flying, boating, and working in something that I truely love and that will make a big difference in our natural areas. Any help will be appreciated in getting this thing up and running.

The boas (you mean pythons) and monitors are far from out of control and no big deal.
Did you know that last like so many pythons caught here was staged .

Most non natives have filled a niche that natives could no longer live in.
Canals being man made and great for cichlids while way way to hot for natives.
I doubt every snake head combined has put the slightest dent in natives . ESP since so limited .

I don't know a person who has ever seen a python by the Glades including park rangers . Yes they are there but nothing compared to what hysterical Gvnr Nelson says.

Fight the bulldozer and development run off and chemicals which Green tree frogs cant handle but much hardier Cuban tree's can. Fight the tree's being cut down which remove homes for green Anoles thus brown anoles move in.
Pythons aren't taking a toll on gator's there are so many of them that many leave the Glades looking for new homes only to be destroyed when they reach a certain size.

Even FWC now admits most don't.

The non natives are here to stay its the construction that is hurting the natives Esp in S. Florida NOT non natives.

Sounds like fun; however, with all else that's going wrong with the everglades it looks as if there wont be any habitat left for neither: native or invasive species.

Exactly thats the problem not non natives.

The politicians like to focus on non natives while they make corrupt real estate deals at less than market value ESP S. Florida /Miami (corrupt x corrupt) and more wild lands are sold .

Non natives like this CTF can live easily around buildings/structures while natives can not .
This pic was up in 6 story building in Coral Gables and other than small golf course its now cement city and the GTF are gone and the CTF moved in.

They get blamed for wiping out Greens but the total destruction of green foilage is not :screwy:.

Disregard this guy he is just talking, he has went from "non profit" to "for profit" next it will be a charity.............just humor him.

The government could not remove snakheads from one small area in Virginia, this guy is going to take on the entire Everglades............good stuff

You lived in Florida for years.

Do you disagree when I say non natives are as a whole not the problem and actually if anything take a tiny toll, mostly can live where non natives have been driven out?
