IS 265G BIG ENOUGH???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't necessarily understand why its an odd combo, except maybe the addition of the bichir(which is kinda odd i guess), and the Fronts, they're all SA/CA cichlids aren't they??

you simply canot keep and agressive cichlid with a semi agressive cichild. you have to get cichilds with the same temper to hold there grounds. example..... a jag and a ebjd are not gunna work neither will the firemouths

OK, So my stocking list is currently, 2 JD's, 1 GT, 1 Oscar, 1 Electric blue JD, 2 Firemouths, 1 Jaguar, 1 Frontosa, and 1 Senegal Bichir, and I'm getting a Zaire Frontosa, will all of these fish fit comfortably in a 260g??........

frontosa is from africa

the bichir is a bichir lol. they sometimes do ok around cichlids, they sometimes get killed.

the jaguar aggression wise is on another level than the firemouths and EBJD. in fact, gt, reg jd, and oscar are even a level above them.

you have an odd mix of fish with different aggression. Usually doesn't end well

And why is that a weird combo???

CA and Africas? Most people don't mix them for several reasons. But a if that's what you like......... I'd keep the fronts in a tanks alone, beautful fish, they are. Not all those fish will ba as happy as they could be together in the same type of water. What makes the africans happy is not the way to keep CA's and visa a versa. The Jag, definately love em. JD's ok too.

I understand the aggression thing, I was just under the impression if they all had enough room they'd be able to co-exist, and at the moment the Jag is a wuss and and I could do without the firemouths(my girlfriend thought they were neat) I figure worst case scenario I could always set up a 125g for any fish getting bullied to bad, I'd just rather have them all in the same tank if possible

I know the Bichir is a little out of place, I actually had to move him to a 20g to grow a little bit because I looked over and seen him hanging out of the oscars mouth one day,....but he's ok now

the only thing thats weird is CA and SA cichlids mixed in with african cichlids. but it can be done, and ive seen it done before. what it really comes down to is what you like, and thats all that matters.

Usually, I'm not a big african cichlid fan, but there's something about fronts that I find fascinating, but after all the things I'm reading on here, I seriously considering a separate tank for them so that I can match water conditions for them a little better

At the moment, they're all juveniles getting along ok in a 55g, I'm upgrading friday, and just wanna get a big enough tank to cut down on aggression as much as possible down the road
None of those are extremely beserker aggressive except the jaguar so you'll probaly have a bunch of bluffing but no bodies. You may have to remove the jaguar if it becomes to aggressive. If they already have the pecking order from the growout tank they probaly won't take long to reestablish the order. I would not add the wild caught frontossa though as it may not be used to the water parameters. The oscar or jaguar may still try to sample on the bichir though. Honestly leave the jaguar out & all should be well.

the funny thing is, at the moment the jaguar is one of the lowest in the heirarchy, right now its: the bigger JD, Oscar, bigger Firemouth, smaller JD, smaller Firemouth, GT, then the Jag, EBJD, Frontosa
