Is converting to sand worth the hassel??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have use pool filter sand for 3 years now.

I syphon the sand just like the gravel and I don't lose much sand at all. You do need to syphon the sand since you run the risk trapped gasses in the sand.

be careful if you use those magnetic glass cleaners and you can get sand caught between the cleaner and glass. You will get a lot of scratches on the glass.

it looks good, nice collection of fish as well. i dont think you will regret going to sand. i havent and i will never go back to gravel.

Thanx alot, I love the way it looks, it looks SO much nicer and more natural than gravel. Hell I had blue gravel at that lol. I cant imagine that I will regret it!!!

i wouldve regretted NOT going to sand and keeping the blue gravel. i set up a tank once for my x and she wanted purple gravel :screwy:

I'm switching my 60g from gravel to sand right now also. I'm just doing a bit of the gravel each day until it's gone, then removing the undergravel filters probably later this week. This tank's been set up over a year and a half so the gravel has a lot of crap to stir up in it though. =(

But, I have sand in my 200g and my 30g and I think it's way better then gravel or rock depending on the fish you have in it. Some fish look better with a stone bedded substrate, imo.

Yeah, I thought the blue gravel looked cool in the store, over the last year and a half though I grew to despise it lol

Has anyone had any luck with live plants and sand? Is it heavy enough to keep them down? I have used fluorite and even that was a little tricky because it was lighter than the gravel I was used to.
