Is converting to sand worth the hassel??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
youll look at fishkeeping a whole new way with sand. gravel is just too boring.
and youre supposed to grow plants in sand or dirt. looks really unrealistic. haha really unrealistic.

sg1 - is that PFS? Where did you get it? I like the way it looks! I have a 75g empty 'cuz I can't decide what to put in as substrate.

i went to a pool supply and got my sand came in a plastic bag is really clean only had to rinse it twice before putting it in my 150g

i was also thinking of converting to sand but i have my air pump hooked up to an airstone that i have underneath my gravel so it cant be seen. can you do this with sand or will it just blow the sand all over?

is the red sand 3M colorquartz? that's what I have in my "big" tank

Ive always thought sand looks much better, but I need an education on it. Is it suitable for a freshwater tank? Can I vaccume it the same way I do the rocks? How messy does it look when it needs to be cleaned? I vaccume my tank once a week but by the end of the week my rocks look noticiby dirty. How would the sand work? Would it clog up my cannister filter? ANd is it worth the hassell to change over from gravel? Any and all help would be most appreciated!!!

Sand keeps the poop on top, so it looks messy almost as soon as you are done vacuuming. In order to combat the poop, I put 3 fx5s on my 135 (2 didn't move enough poop into the intakes). I don't think sand isn't worth it, and I wouldn't do it again.

Yup, thats what it is. I couldn't be any happier.

i would say it's worth the "hassle", but not the "hasselhoff" :D
