Is fishkeeping dangerous? may sound stupid but...

Seriously though, there's not really any danger in fish keeping. Even among people keeping dangerous fish like stingrays and lionfish, I've never heard of anything worse than maybe a little scar and a one-day trip to the hospital.

There are a few diseases that can occur in your aquariums that are transmissable to humans. Mycobacterium (TB) and virbirosis are a few that have several documented cases. "Fish handlers disease" is another one....mostly a skin condition/reaction when your working in the water. Do some research...you'll be surprised what you can find.

my wife used to have nightmares and loose sleep over a lungfish i used to keep at the foot of our bed. she was deathly afraid of it getting out and biting her toe off.:screwy:

the most common disease to humans caused by fish seems to be brokealoticus.
