the one in the picture is a vittatus, not a forskalli, I posted this above, currently according to the academy of scienece, forskalli is listed as a valid species and name, seperate from vittatus

A great link that might have some relevance in this thread

http://www.mbengasafaris.com/ have a look at the species link

I wouldn't be concerned about it not being a GATF. I have a 16" vatf in a 300+g and he looks huge. Has developed a great personality and snaps at the brycon every now and then.

great Link, thank you so much. I agree, vittatus is better colored, and easier to keep, I had one in the past that ate pellets from the surface. Unfortunately, many MFK members are not rational like you Jelly, they want the biggest and baddest, and goliaths always have a special place in my heart, its an incredible fish. If I had JohnPTC's tank, I'd fill it will tiger fish!

Fugupuff I am happy that I have a Vittatus. It is better than not having an ATF at all. I have noticed the red and yellow in his tail, and I am excited to see this one prosper, and become a monster :grinyes: How big should this guy get?

Sweet, I was wrong :D

Jelly, post some pics of that Beast :D

Hey West is that a VATF in your avatar? If so how big is it? That thing looks monster!

Best distinguishing feature of a Goliath for me has always been the head shape & snout. More rectangular/boxy than the others.

Here's when I had a few several specie on one tank.

I'd agree also that the one pictured looks like a skinny Vitattus..

Had enough in my day to tell the difference. I grew these guys from like 2-3" to about a foot+ before I got rid of them. Truly the most active and fun to have. They shoal like a wolf pack oppose a solitary Goliath. I've had about 3 Goliaths at one time in my tank and always liked to be to themselves. Unlike the Vitattus who liked to around each other. If I ever would keep ATF's again it would have to be a PACK of Vitattus....
