Is my tank stingray-compatible?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tank itself is 500 liters, i.e. ~130 gallons. There's currently 100 gallons of water inside. That's 25 gallons short, I know. But the water levels are adjustable since the island floats, and I can fill up to 120 gallons except for temporary occasions i.e. taking photos etc.

The island occupies ~10 gallons of space (yes, I did the math.) It may look gigantic, but it isn't. I carved it out of a 30x30x10 cm block, and it's only half submerged.

If the ray is in a 66 gal tank, then yes its better to be in a 130 gal tank. At least more room. With your tank, the floor space is not much. wall to wall but its up to you.

looking to get some rays,,, which is best,,, to keep salt or fresh water,,, and what kind are the easy to raise,, tank will be 30x30x8,, is this enough space,, thanks

I hope that 8 is meant to be 8 foot and your not talking inches in those measurements. If it is measurements then you would only have around a 30 gallon tank....Really hoping your measurement stated there is grossly off...

I agree. Your tank layout sucks for a ray IMHO. It is not all about gallons but footprint and you do not have a good one for a ray. Walk away and get some eels or something.

Sure your tank might be better then the current tank but not that much better. It would be like getting cutting off your pinky finger instead of your thumb. Sure its better to lose the pinky instead of the thumb but really not that much better...

Usually none, they'll get uprooted or eaten.

unless you use floating plants like water lettuce, water hyacinth, etc.

even then they might get nibbled on. i know the rays at the lfs were eating the duckweed that was in the tank.

The stingray in question is a male and looks smaller than 30 cm. It looks dwarfed in a 100x65 cm aquarium.

how many people have to tell you that your tank is too small of a footprint even for a juvinile ray? Just because your tank is slightly larger does not make it any less hellish on that ray.
