Is this QT tank size sufficient

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
tx, I don’t know why I am so much stressful this time comparing to all my other fish or tanks I have kept.

If you see no aggression (and you're watching from a distance too) I would keep them in QT if it was me. I might try a divider or a larger tub if you're still concerned about them.

I guess they could not be eating bc they are not used to the tank and still stressed from shipment or not enough space to feel comfy. But I def wouldn't add fish that are not eating to the main tank. I'd use a tote bin before I put them with my own fish.

Also i'd change water at least every other day for QT. And I feed Metro and esalts for 3 days.

About QT, some ppl treat Prazi as prophylaxis. Same with Metro against potential Hex. Personally I watch and wait to use Prazi (mainly cuz I can't get it here) and just feed Esalts against Hex. But I deworm all new fish in QT after I was burned in 2017.

So prazi against cestodes and trematodes
Metro and Esalts against Hex
Dewormer for nematodes

Good news, everyone is eating very well now. The Bucco chases the EyeBiter from time to time but no damage. I am going to leave them in QT for as long as can.

Thank you

What is the symptoms of nematodes?

That's the trouble, by the time you see symptoms, the worms have done damage. But what I noticed was wasting despite a good appetite. Sometimes you will see red at the vent for the more common worms. I think I saw a red/pink dot at the vent of some fish, sometimes. Tbh I didn't autopsy my fish, so i'm assuming it was nematodes because a few rounds of dewormer seemed to stop the problem.

I didn't know about worms until two years after I added them (by accident of course) to my main tank! No symtoms for 2 years.

What you use for deworm? fenbendazole or levamisole? Add to food?

The new Exochromis belly is some what sunken, I am not sure if just lack of food, or internal parasite or worm. Eating well.

Is still consider sunken belly? Should I be concern and start any med or just feed more?

thanks

Well I can't say if it's worms but my ram looked like that when he had worms.

I dosed Levamisole in the water 3 times and for good measure fed Fenbendazole twice.

Great, thanks. I will order some Levamisole.
