I have guns, and I hunt.

I have six chidren, aged 23 to 4.

Out of those, 4 are boys, who know their way around guns. Yet they started when they were around 12 years old.

To put a gun in the hands of a 3 year old is plain nonsense. A kid of that age should not be familiar with guns. Should not have access to them, does not even need to know they exist.

The perceived need to have a child of that age "at ease and familar " with guns can only mean that guns, and their keeping, are treated lightly in your household.

She does not need to be familiiarized with them. It is not as if she is going to help you, in a situation, should the need arise.

"Lightly" is subjective. Most all are locked up. A few are loaded but hidden and out of the reach of her around the house. All of the loaded firearms just have loaded mags, not chamberd (except for the one that is on my person) and there is no way in hell she has the strength to chamber a round. My 5'3" 105lb wife can hardly do it so a 35lb child isnt.

She does not have access to them though she is familiar with them. She knows for example to never let the muzzle point at any one and that is important. Knowing proper gun safety will be second nature to her when she gets older. Its like knowing to look both ways before crossing the street. She does that too but do we allow her to cross the street alone? Hell no.

However I am puzzled to why you think she shouldnt even know they exist. I did not start teaching her about firearms until about a year ago. She saw me working on one of my weapons and said that guns kill people. Where she heard that I have no idea but it was not from my household. From then on we decided to not let her be influenced by any anti-gun rhetoric at school or in the media.

I still do not agree with you, considering the age of that little , beautifull, pumpkin.

When i mention her not knowing they exist, I mean "exist in her household, in her vicinity". And, opposed to you, I believe that "familiarity" breeds disrespect.

And loaded, hidden, guns in the house?!? They discover everything, as you know, sooner or later.

I sincerely hope you don't regret it, from my heart.
