Jaguar hybrid is destroying his tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The best one i can think of off the top of my head would a giraffe catfish. I currently have one and he is awesome i read somewhere one of them is like having 180 corey cats. The only drawback is they get huge over 30" i think and pretty fast. And would expensive to get one big enough for what you need. Its just hard to find managable sized cats that can go with a fish with a temperment like his. My jag and both dovii I have will not allow me to even try tankmates. Big pleco and lots.of places for him to hide may be your only chance for now. You will have better luck if you upgrade though extra room sometimes will change temper a little. Then you could add them to then new tank at the same time.

I'll probably just keep the way it is, with the 2 big filters. They keep the water clear and the bottom doesn't look too bad when I do water changes every weekend. I try to change water every 2 weeks at the very least. I can find 150 gallon setups on craigslist, and I do have a pickup truck. I can just imagine trying to get a tank that size through my front door and into the house. Not to mention, breaking down the 75. If nothing else, I could keep the 75 up and running, use it to grow up a cat and a pleco. Cheaper to raise them from a smaller size than to buy a full grown traded in one.

That looks like it might be right. The pattern looks very similar. Nice looking pair, are they tank destroyers How big are those 2?

They aren't too bad destroying the tank, they mainly mess with each other.

The Freddy male& Mota are about 7" in those pictures. The female is around 5" in them.

Mine won't ever have anyone to mess with unless I can get a bigger tank. Next year, I'll try to get a 125, give him a little more room.

My Freddys are in my 125 .
he's about 9" & she's 6-6.5"

I have the left 3rd separated with a divider, the divider is off the bottom about 2". She can fly under it& get away from him. He can fit under it too,but not as easily as her. So, it slows him down quite a bit.

I'd love to get hold of a 125, but then what do I do with my 75? I know, grow a couple of huge cats in it. Then what do I do with my 30 when I get a 55? They accumulate like crazy given a chance. I thought my 75 was big when I first got it. Now it's just a goldfish bowl next to everyone else on here.

I'm going to try a different type of toy with the jag/freddy. I am going to take plastic fishing floats and tie them to heavy sinker. See what he makes of that. If nothing else, is cheap and easy to try.

I'd love to get hold of a 125
Do you belong to any local clubs? When old school fishkeepers get out of the hobby or downsize, it's usually the first place they go to sell their stuff.

I picked up my 125 for $100, my 120 for $50 & my 100 for $25 - all from fellow members downsizing

Thank you. I do belong to a local aquarium club, but the weird thing is that there is never any activity on their website, and they don't answer emails. I think maybe I got took. I paid to join the local group, but no activities or interest on their part. I get more info here, than I will from the local group.

The plastic floaters do work out ok, at least till he figures out how to bite the fishing line holding the floaters to the weight. I found two floats on the top and two sets of sinkers behind his cave. Tried to get a pic of him attacking the floaters, but he of course only does it when the camera is nowhere near. Fish are not the easiest subject in the world to photograph. They don't always pose nice and pretty for you.
