To me before you can debate on the subject.One has to define what they percieve as a Japanese style tank first.The pic with the Arapaima can not be classed as a japanese style tank IMO.I think that would be classed as wrong in any nationalities standard.(as far as fish enthusiest/hobbiest goes)
The other tank I have posted is how I percieve a Japanese style tank to be.While some will say overcrowded straight off the bat, I see it as beauty,well cared for fish and I give credit to the aquariest in achieving that.
Before anyone puts down this guys tank,lets take the time to think about this guys experience,knowlage as a fish keeper.Maybe he has tried with less fish and overstocking has proven to stop aggression time and time again and that is why he/she has chosen this route?
His basic specs on this tank as posted.Compare filtration size to tank size.
Tank size : 1800 x 900 x 600 (WLH mm)
Filter is overflow and overhead;
overflow: 450 x 350 x 550 dry filter tank and 1200 x 600 x 450 wet filter tank
overhead : 1200 mm wide
IMO these fish are better of than most fish in understocked tanks with lesser filtration and water quality.Personally,I believe there is alot to be learnt from there methods but they will never share there knowlage if the first thing we do is knock them on how many fish they keep in one tank.
