We are all forgetting that some, not all the farmed species reach maturity quite fast. Chickens are laying eggs within six months, we all know what fish can do hence the name of this website, but how long does it take a dolphin to reach sexual maturity? Not as quick as fish and chickens, and they also dont have the luxury of having a ton of babies at one point or another. Taking 20,000 dolphins from the wild "if true" is detrimental to their population. Im not saying the japanese shouldnt eat it, but there are so many alternatives than to massacre worldwide wildlife icons. Whats so taboo about their meat that there cant be another alternative? Rather than spending all that money on fueling ships and repairing nets, why cant they spend that money on goats, chickens, and cows
trout farming etc etc etc......its bad enough we are depleting ocean, forest, and desert habitats by the minute, but now we have to kill their inhabitants too for a taboo meal? Senseless, and I would think some of us here would know better. This all goes along with castrating tigers, shark fins, etc etc etc..... its time we look at the big picture and realize that some of these animals dont have much longer to live if we "the cause" of all this chaos dont find a solution, since in essence as someone stated we are the "supreme" mumbo jumbo earlier in this thread.
