I am having a hard time taking you seriously, you have an 80 gallon tank with an under gravel filter ? This is your only filter on the tank ? What fish are you keeping/planning to keep ?

A lot of people here hate on Under gravel filters do a search for my thread on them. They work! Keep it and use it and enjoy it. Some people prefer to not use them but can never come up with a viable excuse as to how they are negative. As a sole filter they are not great but accompanied with a strong mechanical filter they are great. Remember as long as your ammonia and nitrite are in check you have enough bio filtration.

Please stop spitting crap about UGF which you dont know of people. I swear ill sic chompers on you.

Forgot to mention no dont put gravel under the plate. And what is so difficult to believe about someone using an under gravel filter ? A lot of people use it as their sole filters and keep beautiful tropical fish for years. He never mentioned another filter but there really is not anything about his post that is hard to take seriously :screwy: You guys crack me up sometimes. We are here to help people and gain knowledge.

A new pump for an under gravel filter? Are you talking a new air pump? You can still use the air pump to make bubbles in your aquarium, no big deal. Ditch the UGF and get a canister filter of some kind that will work for your tank. Canister filters are the easiest to set up IMO. Good for beginners.

If maintained right, UGFs can be great for biological filtration. The main problem a lot of people seem to have is letting waste build up under the filter plates and making a mess. If you either reverse flow the undergravel filter (requires a powerhead driven setup, not air driven) or just be sure to vacuum the waste out regularly, no problems

acipenser why are you finding it hard to take me seriously? I bought the tank complete with UGF from a closing down fish shop surely they knew what they were doing ??????!!!!!!!
