I highly doubt that you caused any offense . . . I think some people just thought you were having them on with your questions
w/o being critical of UGF, you'll find most people here advocate for canister filters or hang-on-back (HOB) filters . . . and then they argue over which canister/HOB filter is best . . . I personally haven't used UGF in years, but by brother uses it for all of his tanks (along with HOBs) and he has very healthy fish
no need to apologize, just keep asking honest questions and then sifting through the responses to find the best ones . . . no worries
