Jealous girlfriend?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My GF is kind of like "Eh, those are cool" then we just talk about something else.

My girlfriend is an animal lover so she was easy. I spend all my time at her place so I started gradually moving my tanks over here, starting when my roommate needed to re-carpet our place back in January. She was a little shocked at first but yesterday she didn't even bat an eye when the 55 in the bedroom was replaced by a 125. She's as attached to the fish as I am (moreso in some cases - ie I thought it was funny when one of the datnoids ate two tetras when an emergency forced him into the planted tank for 6 hours, whereas she cried) and recently spent 60 bucks on a fish for herself! She did not like the idea of getting an arowana but within a few days had become totally attached to my little silver baby. We're both excited to put him into the big tank when he's big enough.

When we buy a place next year you can be sure that the ability to accomodate a 500+ gallon tank will be a major thing we both look for.

My g/f likes fish. I got my first tank back in december (greatest xmas pressent ever) and then I went and got another and another and another. and now I have 2-125s 1-75
1-10. And she wanted one so I let her have my first tank a 5 hex and then I went all out for her b/c she wanted it and she's worth it. and got her a 54 corner. The only problem is I want another BIGGER tank and she gets all bent out of shape about it b/c she doesn't have a ring yet. SOOOOOOO... basically all I got to do is get her a ring and I can have my 300+ :) (I think thats doable)

heh, when I get crap for spending to much time with the fish I always remind my girl I could always start a new hobby such as gambling and strip joints..... she usually drops the issue after that :)

guess I'm one of the lucky ones my wife took care of more fish than me, and want to set up a arowana tank when we get our first house.

My gf used to think I was crazy spending so much time, and money on my fish. Then I let her pick out a couple. Now, the first thing she does when she comes over is check the tanks to make sure "her" fish are ok

My girlfriend was getting upset that I was bringing in too many tanks to the house and wanted me to start removing some tanks. So I told her that I would make a deal with her, if should could take care of 2 of my mollies for 2 months I would remove some of the tanks. If they died she would have to live with the tanks.

She agreed to the deal but was in shock when I told her that she would have to setup the tank, filters, etc and that I was not going to help her. The only way I would help is by giving her whatever she thought she might need for the fish. She went online and started doing some research about the fish and what they would need to survive. She asked me if she could have the 5 gallon tank that I had my Betta in that was on my office table. I knew why she wanted the tank because it was one of those eclipse tanks where the filter came with the tank so makes it easier for her to setup. I agreed but I removed the Bio-wheel and all filter media to see if she would remember to get it (plus I wanted her to learn about tank cycling). Apparently she did a lot of research on that tank because she caught on to the missing pieces fast.

After a few weeks she started growing attached to them, but as you can tell by this time the cycling problems started up. The fish started to get sick so she freaked out and started looking up about fish diseases, water chemistry, etc. She tried her best to save the fish but eventually one of the fish died within the first month. She was heartbroken and asked me if I can come in and save the other little molly. So I sat with her and explained about the water testing, water changes, medications, and slight errors that she was making with the tank. After another 3 weeks the fish was healthy again and she had grown to love that little molly.

Today she is very interested in fish keeping and still has her little molly on her desk. Now we both maintain all the tanks in the house and I even caught her giving fish caring tips to one of her friends when they got their first fish. That little molly is now probably my favorite fish out of all the fish in the house because it was able to convince my girl to let me keep all my tanks :)
