JEFF RAPPS HAS KELBERI!!!!!!

With kelberi being one of the hottest, most talked about Cichla on the web right now because they are illegal to export from Brazil, isn't it more than a little odd that all of the sudden they start coming in from Brazil at great prices?

This would be like a vendor getting in black rays all of the sudden for $200.

Rapps has a pretty good rep around here, I highly doubt that he would try to pass off say, Monos as Kelberi. Exspecially on here. There are alot of people on here that know these fish very well and it would pretty much ruin his rep if he did that. We will know tomorrow for sure. I will have pics of mine up as soon as I can get them in the water, though it may not do the fish any justice since they will be very stressed for a few days

im not worried... illegal to import doesnt mean anything since i have see so many rare cichla imported from brasil recently..... as for the pictures im going to make a thread for these kelberis and hopefully people will update pics and info there.. well see

Venom I don't think he was talking about Raps I think he was talking about the other mystery supplier that all of the sudden has popped up with kelberi when us NOOBS are bieng told there no where to be found. But Walla here we see that Rapps can get them in and it just throws concearn out there. As I am not as seasoned as the rest of the group this is all a learning experience to me. So it is kind of strange that all of the sudden Rapps throws his up they sell out and then OUT OF THE WOOD WORKS WE HAVE ANOTHER SuPPLIER WITH SOME! :screwy: COme on most of us were not born yesterday! But I smell it in the air and it don't smell good.
 
No, sorry I quoted both you and Sabatoge and I ment to comment something else about what you said and never got around to it. Sorry i don't remember what i was going to say. :(

This is the thing that gets me nobody had any of these names in there mouth and now all kind of names are popping up that has this or had this. When I looked at these sites there was nothing they had to offer Excluding Rapps he has always stayed on top of his game as far as I can tell. But River wonders was still showing Cichla from 2005 and always had the SOLD OUT flag. Like I said I am new to this internet sells, the supply and demand, and it just seems so wierd that we are all cichlid keepers and were all waiting for some one else to get what we can supply for ourselves. But this weekend was the fist time I heard about "hoarding shipments". But coming from were I am from I see that some of the same rules apply were money is concearned. WOW now if that doesn't bite the bullet. But I salute Rapps for making a few Dreams come true and giving some of us still learning in the game the hopes that maybe one day we can get in on the Thirst of owning a few of these cichlids that all we do is hear this person has some that person has some but you The Noob can't have any why?

1. Either they can't breed them or never breed them. ( I find that hard to believe)
2. The price get's drived so high it makes your brain hurt.
 
I was in no way saying that Rapps was purposefully selling monos as kelberi. What you do need to keep in mind is that in many ways Rapps is at the mercy of his suppliers. If they call him and say we have kelberi he is only selling what has been sold to him. If you think that the suppliers in South America do not keep track of what's hot in the U.S. you need to think twice.

I have seen this many times over the years. Just last year Geophagus proximus was all the rage yet nobody could get them. All of the sudden many importers here in the States were being offered wild caught proximus through their suppliers in Brazil. Several importers brought them in but not a single proximus was to be found amongst any of the fish sold as such. The suppliers in Brazil knew it was a highly sought after fish and tried passing off common altifrons as proximus to drive up sales.

Again, buyer beware. I sincerely hope that they are kelberi. That would be awesome.
 
Another thing to remember is that the other supplier that Scat mentioned is just as well respected as Rapps if not more. He is Oliver Lucanus of Below Water and I guarantee he would not KNOWINGLY sell something that isn't what he says. He can just as easily be mislead by his supplier also.
