seedubs1 started preaching and it got me going, basically if we never bought fish we couldnt house demand would be so low they wouldnt be in the hobby, i was defending you mate...

Sorry, I think my post came off wrong. I wasn't talking about tank size or anything like that. I was talking about people worrying about the price of a fish.

Even if he's only keeping this fish in a 75 gallon, the price of the fish is just a drop in the monetary bucket. What I was getting at is: who cares if an $8 fish was a good deal or not. What's considered a "bad" deal? $20? What's considered a good deal? $5? What's the difference in the long run when the tank cost $500 and you're going through food, chemicals, etc... Like its going out of style?

Essentially: if you want it and can house it, get it (obviously not talking about super expensive rare fish here).

That is always something I like to remind people [and myself] about big fish. Arowanas are a great example, the difference in price between a cheapo silver and an expensive asian is nothing compared with what you'll spend feeding and housing it over the ten plus years it should live for, yet people always still seem to baulk at the price...

get off my thread dummy .who baulking? wat does that even mean?

I was reading a book at the library on cichlids and it said doviis and jaguars are barely classified as an aquarium species because of ther size. this book was written probly like 15 years ago, being on this website makes me realize how far weve taken this hobby!
Our progress is truly inspiring. We've reached a point of enlightenment where we realize that a firemouth, a 7 inch jag, a 7 inch Dempsey, a mayan, a dovii, and a toad can coexist in a 125. I'm adding an arapaima to my 90 gallon this week. As justarn points out, this will increase the demand for them, which is a Good Thing. It's sad to see the decline of pacu & red-tail cats at fish stores.
