JUST HAD TO SHARE THIS "DIY"

what are the benefits of running the intake all the way across the tank? i'm only seeing about 4inches of holes, and several feet of pipe. Why not just have the intake at the bottom on the same side where it comes in...

the flaw in the "waterfall" style hob filter is that the intake only picks up the water that was dropped. as the water comes out of the top of the filter and drops straight down, a lot of that clean water goes right back into the intake tube. so you only get a good cycle directly in front of your filter. by moving the intake off to the side, you allow the filter to grab water from the one side of the tank and drop it on the other allowing for better filtration and water circulation by creating a larger cycle area.

oh. duh. can't believe i missed that....

nice i did something similar to it,
i had some kind of old power filter but no tubing, well i used around 2' of vacuum tube i had left si i just connected it to filter and add to end protector for fish , works perfectly since day one

pretty sweet idea, i may have to give it a whirl

The holes don't appear big enough to take in much. Oscar poop is the size of small gravel. This design has potential.

That makes perfect sense, someone needs to invent a new style of HOB filter one that has extra attachments, spraybar, etc Makes you wonder if these filter engineers ever think about the practical aspect of fish keeping. Perhaps someone who is not an engineer needs to come up with the design. Engineers seem to always get it wrong.

I hook up AquaClear 110's to homemade pvc undergravel filters. Sucks in debris from all sections of the tank.

I would be interested to see a picture of how you set that up, sounds awesome.
