so you are saying that even something like a pacu that CAN be easily kept in captivity successfully by the public sector should be illegal to own? I own a water monitor and can care for it properly, these guys actually get LARGER than KomoDo's and are legal to keep even as pets and yet have you heard of someone being eaten by them? no.

Also, what about dogs? many people that have dogs do not know how to properly care for them and I have known people to keep large dogs in small apartments, do you think dogs should be illegal too?

I think that anyone with the resources needed should be able to keep any animal they want, be it a Pacu, a komodo dragon, or a great white shark or anything else.

Maybe I just don't get what you are saying but it sounds like that if a few people can't keep an animal properly then no one should be able to.
Ok, let me make this easy. We are not talking about DOGS/WHITE SHARKS or PACU. This thread is about KOMOTO'S. They are NOT pets and should not be kept as such. The only reason a person would want a komoto is to show it off and brag(until someone looses an eye). You have to have a permit just to visit Komoto and they dont just hand them out for obvious reasons. 99.9 % of the world population cannot properly care for a KOMOTO ...This is my .02, it may not be worth much but it is my opinion..

there are no anacondas in FL and the wild pigs were let lose for a different reason, you are comparing apples to oranges and since the komodos are so rare then they will not be released into the wild since I can guarantee that their value would never drop below several thousand dollars which would pretty much ensure that anyone who gets one would be taking good care of it because it was so expensive.

extremely good point, I know that if I even bought a caiman lizard at 500 buck i would do everything in my power to keep it alive and healthy because thats 500 bucks that I could have spent on something better so Im sure as hell not going to let it die or let it loose

to piggy
you seem to only see the negative and are not getting your facts straight
maybe you liked lord of the flies too much or something

People will buy them if available to the public and just like sooo many invasive species they WILL be introduced into the eco system where they will be a problem. im not just implying that ppl will release them but they can escape into an eco system and cause major damage..

sorry but I live in FL and not only have I gone to the everglades to remove the invasives but I know many other people who do so as well. 99.9% of the snakes found were burmese. I know of several rock pythons that were found too but I have yet to hear of or read about a breeding population of anacondas in FL from a credible source.

Where did you hear that there were condas loose?

then why has this not been a problem with other animals like savanna monitors, croc monitors, water monitors, black throat monitors, crocodilians, or any other large lizard? they are simply too valuable to let loose or keep in shoddy enclosures. how do you know that they would even survive IF they did get loose?

Chris, i dont want to argue with you. Im simply stating my opinion about Komoto's. They are not and never will be in the hobby trade, period.....btw...love your avatar...

okay, 2 of them found miles apart and 6 years apart is hardly a breeding population. Also the USGS is the same organization that falsified information and claimed that the pythons were going to take over the lower 1/3 of the united states (this has been discredited by every other scientific paper that has studied the issue including one by National Geographic scientists as well as others done by zoos and universities across the states). this website was also put together by USGS "scientists", notice anything wrong:

I understand and I am sorry for getting so heated about this I just feel strongly that qualified individuals should be able to keep any pet they want as long as it is done responsibly.

And thank you.
