Hi everybody on monsterfishkeepers,
This is my first ever post on here so hello.

I'm chuffed to of found a site with so many other passionate fish keepers.

I thought i would start by asking what people would consider as tank mates for koi?

I currently have a 158 gallon indoor tanks which is stocked with the following

6 koi between 3 - 8 inches
2 filament barbs - 2 inches
2 bristlenose albino - plecos 3 inches
2 sailfin plecos - one is around 7 inches the other around 2 inches
1 Sturgeon - 7 inches
1 golden orfe - 3 inches

Please note all of these fish have a pond to go into when they are ready to fly the nest. ( apart from the plecos and barbs )

These fish have lived peacefully in this tank for over a year now and never had an issue.

Im running 2 fx5's with 2 powerheads inside to maximize flow so organic waste does not sit at the bottom

Plus ample oxygen for the sturgeon with 2 air pumps running.

I hope people think the setup is ok and if so,could anybody recommend so unusual tanks mates that may fit in.

Thanks
Billy

Welcome to MFK!!!

Chinese hi-fin sharks do just fine with koi.

As do Wakin goldfish.

Wakins are the progenitors of the modern-day large-bellied goldfish (orandas, ryukins, etc) but, can compete with koi for food.

American flagfish are also colorful addition native species that are excellent in removing hair algae and mosquito larvae.

Golden orfe, golden shiner, common goldfish, red rosy minnows and perhaps common carp.

My favorite for koi are goldfish and crappie. I've been keeping crappie for about a year and a half now, lost one to a pumpkinseed half it's size, and then another to an angelfish in a semi-aggressive tank. For me the crappie do best in the peaceful community, I was surprised that they really don't bother anything larger than what will fit in their mouth.

Ha! Another keeper of Koi in a tank!!
My clowns love my Koi...they swim with her and nudge her and follow her around.
Nobody messes with her....she's just a big sand sifting grazer...like an ol' cow! Lol!
So, I have:
8- Clowns...3"-8+"
2- spotted Silver Dollars
1- 8" comet goldfish
1- 3" black koi
1- 7" Royal Pleco (L190)
1- 6" Chinese Algae eater
1- 3" Orinoco Zebra Pleco
1- 3" Serasa goldfish
2- Kelberi( breeding pair, don't ask)
1- 3" Clown Pleco
and...19, 1-2" Geophagus Altifrons fry.....yes, 19....
oh yeah, and my 12" Koi.
All these fish get along amazingly with no problems....
