Every which way you look at it, if this was in an AMERICAN National Park, those parents (what parents?) would be BEING BLAMED, SUED, probably IN JAIL, for letting their child get killed. Child neglect is taken very seriously here. Native or not.

komodos dont eat trash

they eat all carrion (fresh or rotten meat) and also hunt there prey when the opportunity arises. and humans are on the menu, if its meat, its edible. once that forked tongue locks into hunt mode thats pretty much it. not to mention a mouthful of serated teeth and bacteria that can kill by infection.

Professor Delagdo, I am not a native english speaker, ok? Consider, please, that in Trash i was encompassing whatever there may be in trash, as in garbage...

Miguel is right - "Trash" could include thrown-away meat - half eaten burgers, or the remains of a chicken or steak.

Scavenging has become a way of life for many predators, due to the EASE of obtaining food. And as with most predators, they are omnivorous to some extent. If it is smelly, they are bound to check it out. Even if they are not eating trash, they are attracted to it. Classic example: Bears in Yellowstone Park getting too close to houses due to trash output. Lizards are no different.
PURE neglience - on the parents' part.

Santoury, I wonder, my friend..In a thread about a bull shark ( and another one about a Whale shark ) you quickly cry Murder! The death of the animal mooves you..in this here thread, a child gets killed, and you waste your energy venting about parental negligence etc, etc...

sumpin's wrong in this world......evertaing's upside down,,,,

Sorry Santoury, have to disagree with you on this point. If it were an American National Park, someone in charge would be blamed, sued and probably in jail for not telling the parents that the "Danger do not go near the wildlife" signs weren't adequate enough warning. That being said, it's a shame that a child lost his life and his parents have to live with that loss. We will probably never know the circumstances of why the kid was there or what his parents were doing at the time. And we probably wouldn't understand them if we did. If you don't have kids you don't understand just how fast something can change.

what if he has no parents? all of you assume to much without knowing the boys history. you make it sound like he is a typical american tragedy on the new when they WHERE WERE THE PARENTS AT! this is a third world country, there way of living is much different.

most kids grow up street smart, meaning that they do there own thing and learn from experience, its happening all over the world, alot of kids in the US arent sheltered and protected as well as they should, when i was a kid me and my cousins did our own thing around the neighborhood, no one ever watched us and thats how it is in alot of places in the US and around the world. unfortunetly enough the boy paid the ulimate price for his inexperience.

and it couldnt have been prevented because you cant prevent what has already happened, you can only prevent it from happening the next time.

How dare you. Ruining a perfectly good argument with potential facts.
