Right now I have these zebras in my angelfish tank with some tetras. Eventually they will have their own tank. I have no problems getting them food and they are not to shy. Not my ideal situation right now, I just couldn’t pass them up. I got a good less than average price for this group. My experience has been that TR zebras are a bit less skittish and will come out more. I have always kept mine in a species tank not even with shrimp. But that is me. Plenty of people keep them with other fish and/or shrimp.
It would drive you crazy if you knew what I paid for my recent purchase of twenty-five zebras at about 2 inches TL. There is a family in Indonesia that runs a top notch breeding operation which includes a lot of the rare Hypancistrus. My spawning group is long in the tooth, some are approaching 20 years. My plan was to keep 15 of the new ones and sell 10. Somehow I still have all 25
If you can buy a big enough order, they can be had fairly cheaply these days and they come in very healthy. My partner in the venture sells tropical fish for a living. He sells a bunch of what I breed. I put up the financing and he did the rest. We brought in 326 zebras. That got us the best possible price on the two sizes we chose.
I have them parked in a 45 long (it's a short 55 gal. basically). I figure they could spawn next summer give or take a few months.
I have been working mostly with L236 and L173 (see below) in the more recent past.
325 zebras? That must be quite the sight! It wouldn’t drive me crazy, I wish these guys were more readily available and wish more people kept a them.
Wow those 236’s a beautiful as well! How many of those do you have?
ive got the pleco big that’s for sure! The more I keep the more I want haha
currently I’m sitting on 20 plecos between all my tanks ?none are breeding for me yet as they are all too young haha
