They are 5”-7”. This was the same group 14 months ago. For size reference. I think the orange heads were over a year at that point. They are over 2 years old
This is my current set up, going for an amazon theme, green horsefaces 2, red horsefaces 2
Chain loaches 3
Black ghost knife
Whiptail cat
Gibbercept cat
Spiky marsh snails 2
134 pleco (leopard frog)
002 pleco (tiger or king tiger who knows haha)
I am thinking of adding orange head tapajos or a true braziliensis if I can find one .... thoughts?
First of all consider the size of the tank. How big is it?
But don't add just one Orange Head Tapajos. They like to hang out in groups, as do most eartheaters. I prefer to keep at least 6 Geos in a group.
Also as your black ghost knife grows (and grows) you will find that smaller fish in the tank go missing overnight. You might want to put the little ones in a different tank.
I was thinking of adding 2 orange heads that way there are 6 geos in total! What do you think of that?
And I must agree, I have had a ghostknife before that got quite large, he went to fish heaven about 6 months ago so I got junior here in his memory hehe!
You should probably have a 150 gallon just for the black ghost knife fish. It will also pick off your neon tetras and possibly chain loaches as it grows. They can get up to 20 inches long.
Plecos produce large amounts of waste and can be territorial. Your gibbiceps in particular comes to mind.
Plug your tank's dimensions and filtration capacity along with your current and desired stocking levels into aqadvisor.com for an general idea. I would guess without checking that you need 300 gallons or more without even thinking of adding any new fish. So unfortunately an upgrade is desperately needed ASAP and / or some fish need to be moved to separate tanks or rehomed.
If it was me I'd keep a school of the same species of geos in any one tank. Even sociable fish like cory cats will usually hang out with their own species, given a choice, though they are friendly with other species. It also prevents hybridization.
There are others more knowledgeable than me who can answer detailed stocking questions if you start a new thread for that.
Thank you

I am amazed at how much I am enjoying my eartheaters. So full of personality and interesting behaviors. The sveni had their first spawn a couple weeks ago. I didn't actually see it, just the behaviors prior to it, but knew that the female was holding a brood in mouth because she wouldn't eat for about 6 days. Lost this one because of my lack of experience with these fish, but
Stanzzzz7 gave me some good tips for the next spawn.
