lol you do know there are cool little fishies out there called asian arowanas do you not? :)

Nope. Arowanas don't float my boat.

Personally, I think it's hilarious how were helping this guy "snake" the buyer. I would give 1/2 the money back. I would feel too guilty to keep all of it. A good compromise is when BOTH parties are mad with the agreement.

Anyways, your money. Do what you want.......

how are we trying to screw the buyer? the fish obviously died in his hands, and he obviously saw it swimming around fine and healthy because he wouldnt have bought it otherwise. if the fish was shipped, then that's a different scenario.

i dont see why the seller should have to eat any of the cost. what's the point of trying to sell a fish then? might as well start giving our fish away if we're gonna start giving refunds when the buyer kills the fish.

this isnt Petsmart we talking about with their 14 day guarantee. and because fish are sensitive to their environment (water) there are way too many variables. thats why any real LFS gives you NO guarantee whatsoever; they have no control over the water in your tank and how you acclimate the fish. petsmart is a corporate giant that can absorb the losses and therefore can market to people have no idea how to keep a fish alive.

WHOA, down boy!

Obviously the OP feels some type of guilt (as he has no idea why the aro died, and he's asking us what we think!). I said what I would do...... I ALSO said he can do whatever he wants "his money".... ;)

and you also made it seem like we're a bunch of scammers :wall:

I would say you're definitely not liable. But if you did agree to some sort of guarantee and he didn't get it in writing, I think you should be a man of your word and give him a refund. But if there was absolutely no kind of agreement, verbal or written, that is his own fault.

If I thought the OP was not entitled to every dollar he made off his fish I would have explicitly said so.

I might also give half the money back, depends on how the buyer acted about getting his refund, nice guy=I'd give him half, knob=keeping it all for myself. Especially if your regularly into selling fish you may want to appease a guy that's willing to give you thousands of dollars for a fish, build a strong foundation for possible transactions down the road. If it was a one time private sale and you don't plan on selling many in the future that's a different story again.

Next time I would have a buyer sign some sort of agreement that he visually saw the fish eat and swim for x amount of time just to be on the safe side. Because I'm sure he's pissed none the less as I would be. We're not talking about $100 here, so he may try some something..........And I was thinking the same thing about refunding some of the money back.

Unless agreed upon at the time of the transaction, once the buyer left your house with the fish in good shape, your responsibility was over. How would you know whether or not the buyer had his car heater or a/c blowing right on the bag? Or, if he decided the fish would be OK if he made an errand stop or two? Or, if he dropped the bag in his excitement to get it into his tank?

Just doesnt seem right. If there was an existing problem, the fish should have died well before 16 hours in his tank, as the stress of a tank change and travel would just do the arrow in that much faster.

Seems like poor aclimation technique, along with bad water or elements.
