The main problem with the war in iraq is the goal.We already tried this before,and found out you cant force a democratic society down peoples throats at gunpoint.
The bushs administrations stiify for a war in iraq caused us to lose the initiative in the war on terror.When pakistan hid osama and we backed down and pretended to believe thier lies bush sacrificed any chance of looking like our country had a backbone,.Instead of going after this nations enemies we hung the loud mouthed mayor of bagdad
We have the most powerful military in the history of the world,too bad neither party is likly to offer us a real leader to vote for anytime soon

Does anyone think if we brought all out troops home that we could sucessfully protect our mainland, rid ourselves of terrorist cells with them and feel free to come and go as we please again?

If you want an honest answer here it is. While I understand that those who want to stick it out in Iraq feel that if we fight them there we won't face them here. But the facts show other wise. Look at Italy, Russia, Africa. They were attacked and only one of them supported the war. Now I know neither are on our side of the water but it shows that the reports are true. Which ones? Well I read a few years ago that they are so organized, mobilized that they have cell in most countries. They can execute an attack from anywhere. What stops them is good intelligence. But it really doesn't have an affect on what happens in other countries because they operate independently.
So what would I do? I say reduce, not remove the troops in Iraq. I say Iraq because most people forget we are still in Afghanistan. Move them to Afghanistan beat the piss out of Al Quida (spelling) and the Taliban. We have international support there and we can reduce our overall troop levels. It has been reported that the group that attacks the US are foreigners and they invaded Iraq after Saddam feel. If that is true they will follow us to Afghanistan. It's as if it's their mission to die in the battle field fighting for God. They think they will get into heaven if they are killed.
It a risk and it's my idea but at least I answered your question. Pick it apart if you want but it's a watered down version of what we could do. By the way I'm not a liberal. I believe in lower taxes and a some what smaller gov. than we have now.

A real change would be to recruit the zealots that wants this war, train them and send them over there as suicide bombers. Fight fire with fire, an eye for an eye as the blble suggests. That should get the Islamic Extremists attention and probably costs much less in terms of our tax money and ruined lives States Side.....and more tax cuts later......
