I have not even fed the little guy yet.. Sol had him for a few days and stuffed him so he will be good for a short bit. As soon as I do get him feeding it will be the usual gar mix of Frozen and prepared foods every other day. (I.E.. shrimp, fish fillet, silversides, krill, Gel diet, pellets Etc.)

Standard procedure for small gars is a 50% water change every two days or so. Once the fish is big enough to be stepped up (should be a week or so) it will go in with the Cuban gars (75% weekly waterchange) for a bit and then off to the big holding pool for the rest of the summer. (75% weekly waterchange)

I am going to so nail you on this one later Jordan.....

you know that's not how i meant it, but it was funny as hell! i'll be watching my back! :grinno:

Bit of an update on the Little Gator Hal the 3rd...
He's a skittish little feller but has begun feeding well on Shrimp, silversides, krill and Fillet as long as it is dark. Not usual for a gator but reminds one that not every fish will follow the same rules. He has grown about 1.5 cm since obtaining him around 4-13-08...

Coloration has changed quite a lot as was expected... The yellow on the fins of this fish is actually very bright. It is of interest that the white stripe on the snout is still present.

I will as I think about it..
I keep rather close records here so the info is available I just do not post much of it. Every other week or month or so I'll throw up an update...

This particular one is skittish.. It is not usual for them to be like this and this is the only one I've ever had that had these issues. Normally they are a bit more outgoing and bold. I plan on this little guy to go into a tank with some other young gars in the next few weeks or so and have a suspicion that this will end his nervous behavior.

very nice gator. keep up the updates, looking foward to them.
