ok dont listen to these tourists who dont know ****....... Im a native floridian and what he is talking bout is dead bleached by the sun coral..... perfectly legal if its dead..... you can put this in ur aquarium, i have.......... put it in very hot water and scrub, do not use any bleach or detergents because it can absorb the chemicals and kill ur tank ....... it will turn into live rock over time especially if you have it touching other live rock..... i think that is it, dont listen to dumbass tourists! lol

Thank You thats exactly what I asked in the first place. It only took 1 year for someone with logic to chime into the thread. I only said that dried up white rock like 15 times yet people were making it seem like live candy cane corals were washing up to the shore and I was putting them in my pocket.

I couldn't imagine how me taking that stuff off the sand is illegal considering all my fellow Canadians are wearing necklaces made from the same stuff which they bought off some really sketchy guy.

you can take fish off the reefs in florida, we get a lot of fish at work from a local diver. why shouldnt be able to take some rocks.

i may just be the type of fish they were taking...and also they may have had a permit of some sort given off and checked with the Fish and Game authority! Well lets just say some fishes are allowed to be taken with the proper Permit, Same goes with Rocks and anything you may want from the outdoors in Nature...No one on this site or anywhere else should even try to take anything from the local beach...unless you have a permit and you have checked with the Fish and Game Authority what you may be wanting to take in the beach premises.Anything taken from the beach or anywhere else without legal permission will be fine and given a ticket for possession for protected property under the laws regarding inside of the United States.

NOBODY without permits can just go take live sand/live rock/bleached coral or fish from the wild and keep it. We answered the question awhile back.
So instead of pushing the law and the the rules of the forum, just keep it legal.

In Florida, nobody can even get a permit to take live rock. Even though you can catch fish with a recreational license, you can't take a non-renewable habitat like the rock. To get Florida liverock you must get an aquaculture lease. Better come with a big check, and a few tons of rock. No hobbyist stuff going on with FWC.

By the way, the private vs. public argument that went on before misses the point. There is no private land in Florida that is under water. Submerged lands belong to the state. Before you think that Florida is too harsh, please remember how many tourists, many of them ignorant about how fragile a reef can be, come down here and tear it up all the time. Never mind if it was legal for them to do it.

Ahhh! that tab button! Sent both replies early. I was just going to add that a LFS guy down here just got caught taking about 150 pounds of live rock. He received the standard fine that came to $250,000 plus a couple of years probation and house arrest.
