Longear Sunfish in 55 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't feed them much and they always finish it. My fish produce a lot of waste though so maybe with the pleco added it overwhelmed my filtration and that's why the ammonia is high. I've started scooping out their poo so maybe that'll help... I want to get rid of one of my goldfish which would help out too and I don't know if I even want the bluegill. I do but I don't lol..

Well, I suggest you do daily water changes until that ammonia gets to 0 or you will end up with no fish.

I have to agree that you need to get your Ammonia under controll, I would get rid of the Pleco ( I love natives so Im definately prejudiced) instead of the Bluegill......that catfish Killer!!!!!!!

Not yet, I need to get a filter and lid first.
When you get them....please post picks, I love sunfish, Dollars, Redbreasts, Greens, but I think longears are definately the prettiest sunfish, and in my opinion one of the nicest looking fish in the world (check out the pictures on Zimmermans website).

Forsure!

Can't wait to get these guys.

I bought some stuff to help with the ammonia problem. Scooping out all the waste has kept it clearer so maybe I just need to keep that up and change water twice a week instead of once. I'm keeping the pleco lol.. I spent forty bucks on it so it is mine!! Maybe if I get the big huge tank I have my heart set out for I will keep natives in it.. I like my bluegill but I want to have a healthy tank and if I wanted it back I could get it back because I would give him to my teacher for safe keeping lol

I bet that regiment will help out alot, Okay but if your pleco starts doing his Jaws routine again I warned you! Hee he he, I gotta give you a hard time about that but in all seriousness I hope the water changes help clear everything up.

The cool thing about Longears too is that they dont get too big and theres several different subspecies to collect.

Tommorrow is the monthly Aquariast meeting, which always has a good auction. I hoping I can pick up an Aqua clear 110 or a lid.

Went and got a lid today at pet traders, I am always amazed what they have there.
I thought I would have a hard time finding lids because the tank is a 50 gallon wide.
Got 2 lids for $12 each because they were 'used'. Pretty damn clean if you ask me.
All I need is a filter now.
As for 'cycling' I plan on buying a box of biomax, split it in half, put one half in the new filter and take half of the biomax of my 100gal's filter.
I will let the new water sit for a couple days before doing that.
