Looking for a bowfin

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's a 'Buy it Now' listing on eBay as well, so either place works. It looks like the seller is almost out, so you guys better hurry! Lol

Just figured I'd update this thread. I just received my baby bowfin from tampaaqua and it looks awesome! Great packing job as well, I'd highly recommend them. I'll let my little guy settle in and try to feed him tomorrow morning. I'd love to hear from anybody else who got one of these little guys!

Do you have a picture of it in your tank? I'm thinking about maybe trying to get one and would love to see a little one.

He's in a 10 gallon Rubbermaid QT tub for the time being, but I'll see if I can get a decent pic of him!

How is the size,is it at least what the fish was described as?

Well, my attempts at taking a decent photo have failed. So here's a picture I found on google that pretty well illustrates what my fish looks like (color not size). Look at the top fish, pretty much identical to mine.

And here's a pic of the tank he will be eventually going into a 100 gallon cube, I know it will need a larger setup in the long run but I may be moving and I really don't want to setup a large tank then just have to take it down again a few months later.

When they or someone else gets some in I'll pick one up and grow him out

I couldn't help my self and threw in a few feeder minnows. It appears one has already disappeared! I'm going to do a water change on my QT tomorrow since it has some pretty nasty algae growth and I'll try getting some pics again (hopefully with more success).

bowfin are like a combo between a typical NA predator and a catfish...they'll eat feeders and anything that will fit in their mouth that they can catch...but if its dead and delicious they'll eat that too. I suggest, if its legal in your state, to get some crayfish of appropriate size for him as he grows, you'll be surprised by the voraciousness when he realizes they are food.
