I never take my filters out. The filters help to spread the water conditioner around even more. This is why the total amount of water conditioner that I use is based on the total tank volume, which means 30g for you.

15g dosing of water conditioner just right before you fill up your tank
15g dosing of water conditioner close to halfway of filling up your tank

At this point, given your elevated nitrate problems, and that your current pita bucket method is just adding to the problem, i'd seriously think about changing your taps so you can use a python. It'll be an absolute game changer for you, trust me.

If you can't do the job yourself, then get a plumber in to supply and fit threaded mixer taps. Initial outlay yes, but crikey, it'll be the best money you've ever spent.

How would I hook something up for easier water changes? I have a sink nearby. Using buckets is just a pain in the ***
There is an incredibly easy method that would work for you that I use as I find my fish don’t handle the method of filling the tank directly up very well unlike most people here. Get yourself a large trash can, I use brute, get a pump and a hose and one of those little metal fasterners to make sure the hose stays on the pump. Fill the trash can, treat it, pump it into the tank. To empty the tank you put the pump in the tank and empty it into the sink. You have to make sure that the fish can’t get into the pump and get killed though.

Either get a 33g brute trash can with the wheels (separate docking piece) or get a longer hose to a sink that has a way to change the faucet diffuser.

Do you have a showerhead nearby? I made a Python alternative using PVC and a potable water hose:

Doesn't require any plumping changes.

I will probably go with the python and try and figure something out. Thanks for the help!
