male breeding parts

I could be wrong but to me it looks fat and pointing straight down. He said its only 2"...
Personally I don't see what the argument is about I would just throw a known sexed convict in and see what they do and be done with it.

Trust me, I keep a pair of Convicts and that is the breed tube of a male, looks JUST like my males. There is not one spec of orange on that fishes belly either. It is a male Marbled Convict. Pink female's have orange bellies, black female Convicts have orange on their bellies and marbled ones do too (they call them calico Convicts).

I've bred many cons as well as a few other ca cichlids. I have 3 different color morphs of cons in my house lol.
Poor op has 2 threads of people telling him its this or that.

I'll beat this dead horse too, I guess. Female Convicts will have an orange belly and males will not. Fin length and fin colors are not reliable in sexing Cons. The clearly visible way of sexing Cons makes it very easy to choose a male or female.

A male at 2" won't be showing that much tube unless it is courting or breeding. I don't want to be a p.I.a. lol.
Not all females will have Orange on the belly. It's even possible for males to have Orange also. Actually my friend has 2 pink males that are mostly orange, long "c" shaped solid orange from dorsal all the way to the belly and bottom fins.
I was looking at one of my grow tanks of similar sized cons and could not see a single male depositor, only females were showing. Here is a female marbled (obviously female I don't think anyone would second guess the sex of this fish)

Not trying to argue lol just saying...

I don't know what one more opinion will matter on this thread but from the pictures given by the OP I would say it is a male. I don't want to say that I am 100% like everyone else but I would say given the pics we have I am fairly certain it is male. The tube to me looks like the males I have had and the fact that there is no orange makes me say male. If I were this OP I would keep this fish just for argument sake as it will not take long for this con to mature a little more and make this more of a certainty. After all if the fish is not the male he desires how long would it really take to replace a convict? Not like they are hard to find.

Boy good thing fish can't read all this. I know it would be a real shot to me ego if there was a heated debate about my gender. LOL!

I know, i am suprised. i have avoided commenting back to anyone as i know there are memebers that feel quite strongly about this. Yes there are valide points on both sides. Its a shame really as i thought a picture of the "tube" would end all arguement. Dispite what people think, i also hate asking the same question again and again, and have i stated before, we have 2 main LFS in the area, never before have i seen a calico and once its parents are sold i imagine it will be sometime before i seen another. I dont enjoy being annoying and i dont enjoy being the "sigh" of most of you, but pleased understand it from my point of view, all i want to know is a simple sex of a convict, some say 100% male, some say 100% female, some dont claim to know either way, all claim to have kept them before, the joke is, iv kept oscars, flowerhorns, syspilum, jags the lot and NEVER have i had such a headache off such a simple fish. If the LFS had them reguarally i would happily shut up wait and see, but time where this is concerned isnt much of a option.
I respect everyones opinion, and everyones arguement.
I have almost given into the fact that the only way ill ever find out for sure is to try and pair it, which i am unwilling to do. I just think its a real shame as i am a nice person, but because of a divided opinion, i feel frustrated and as a result i look a fool.

And i did do research and youtubed video's theres a handful of females without orange and i hate to say it, but that pipe points down, but curves backward, if someone would care to explain to me if down is female or backwards is male? or do they curve backwards? this bit i dont understand.

the picture of the convict above me, the tube on yours is very fat, from the same distance, mine is a spike, in a recent thread called convicts, all the males have tubes showing. my guess is as mine as other cichlid tankmates it may be "aroused" by one of them (to lighten the mood on here) thought none of which are at breeding age.
