Too many people are looking at this from a legality aspect and not a moral one. I wish I could base my judgment on right and wrong on a law some other dude wrote up.
A 100 year old living creature was killed for sport. Wasn't even for food. Killed for the fun of it. And that's kinda screwed up.

**** happens though. There's alot of screwed up crap that goes on in the world. I'm just trying to shed a bit of lights on things/ food for thought.

^Auquaculture and ranches. (in a perfect world)
& fishing would be catch and release while hunting would involve tranquilizers.

jackass! At least have it mounted so it dont go to waist!!

Is sturgeon a food fish,I've only heard of the eggs being eaten? If not what is the whole point of spearing and killing it.

I have eaten lake winnebago sturgeon before and it didnt taste great but I know guys who love it. This fishery is heavily regulated and has a quota system where if so many females are speared the season ends. In this guys defense you may sit in your shack staring at the hole for hours on end and never see a fish and when that shadow appears you dont have time to decide if its a hundred year old fish or a fifty year old fish, that spear is leaving your hand and if your one of the lucky ones you get your sturgeon.

There is actually a camera in the wolf river that you can watch the sturgeon as they go on theyre spawning run. If you type in "wolf river cam" it will give you links.

You gotta realize that aquaculture and ranches cause a bunch of damage onto the environment around it.
