Everyone enjoys Marbles, but few are willing to pay what this market is trying to get.
If there was a ban imposed on Marbles I'd laugh. For a long time... Then graciously pay back the people that have helped me build my current collection.

Still have yet to hear from a couple of people that have very, very nice Marbles...

C'mon guys!!

My personal opinion is $1K. It is very difficult just like mentioned earlier, to spend that kind of $ on ANY fish.

1k for wht? a AAA captive pup, or if they become banned?

Simply put, I think it should be priced per fish...regardless of what type a ray. In this game, at least for some of us connoisseurs, aesthetics are a driving force. You add in captive breeding versus wild caught and that may command a higher dollar. Truth is, AAA quality marbles have been offered less than infrequent so in large part, most of us have never had that bridge to cross. I do not think there is a catch all for all marble sells and most of us have not been offered the opportunity to purchase premium marbles. That said, it is difficult for me to say what I would and wouldn't pay. Example...I will likely never own a Pearl Ray because even a decent marble is more aesthetically pleasing than your typical Pearl Ray so I'd rather pay a fourth of the cost and get a marble motoro. On the other hand, I would likely pay Pearl price for a top grade marble if it is stunning enough.

Banned is irrelevant rumor. I'm saying I don't think any Marble should be over $1K. BUT you and I both know what I think is also irrelevant ;). AAA captive pups? Chances are, from what I believe, that if parents are both AAA the pup may very well be AAAA. Hard to even fathom what that would be worth. We'll have to wait and see what Aquaman's pups look like... As those may be the 1st pups from parents that are both AAA that I'm aware of anyways... Maybe they don't get any better, BUT maybe we haven't seen what happens if the best were to get better... Maybe we will see Brown Diamonds pretty soon... :)

Very well put LJ! But there has to be a point at which you say no Marble is worth that... What is that point? Shoot from the hip, ballpark rough guess the $ value you'd pay for the nicest Marble you've seen on MFK...

Well...for me I guess it just depends on what day it is and how my money is looking. I could probably easily pay $800 for one of Richard's, especially his one female that is probably a year and a half now. But I wouldn't pay that much for his avatar...Just me and what I like. I just go on a case by case bases.

As far as i have heard about the marbles is Colombia is considering a ban on any marbles over 10" for breeding purposes only. The last 10"-11" ones i got were maybe 6-7 months ago.
I will be moving my 2 pairs over to the pond,to see if i can get them to start breeding.
But even AAA parents does not gaurentee that the pups will be AAA who knows what the parents were mixed with.Genetics doesnt work like that.

I'm just goin by what I've seen on this site. Every generation seems to get better looking. Maybe black rays and Marbles are very different in this regard? But if you look at pics of the P14s and BDs being bred it sure seems that way. One things for sure, time will tell. If anyone's gonna have the luck of spawning some ugly ducklings I gaurentee it will be me... Ha ha! That's how my luck rolls, right over me. Like a truck, followed by a bus.

I don't know if a pup is going to be worth 1000, just because when people hear the name motoro they turn away. But I definitely think a marble over 7" from two AAA parents could be worth 1000.

I personally think I have a male/female that are in the top 5% in the country. So when they eventually have pups we will see. If you want pics let me know. I will see what I can do.:grinno:

Well don't be stingy! Post em up! Didn't you end up with some JimR genes in your tank too?

I still think we need a Marble pageant thread. Just to see pics of all the top shelf Marbles in one thread would give us all something to drool over for a long time..... Don't even know if it would be possible to pick a winner, different strokes for different folks, everyone's idea of beauty is different. WAIT! A calender:WHOA: Someone needs to make this happen. Maybe the 52 weeks of Marblism since we all know there's way more then just 12 beauties out there.

Top grade AAA marbles have got to be worth at least as much as a pearl in my opinion. There is an odd pearl I would have over a marble (aquaman's Little Bill for example) but in general I would rather have an AAA marble than a pearl.

The genetics from two top grade AAA marbles have got to produce good captive bred pups but the problems happen when there are several rays in a pond or tank and then the exact parentage is not known. I currently have one nice wild caught marble male and am lucky to have one of aquaman's female pups. I hope in the future they will produce some good captive bred pups.

The price is not important for me as I am not in this for making money from any pups that I may produce but that said I would pay good money for a ray that I like. I think this is the main point and people will pay what they can afford which is probably why there are not that many AAA marbles about and why people are less likely to sell them on. In short quality demands money and like everything you get what you pay for!
