He likely feels like he needs to run the tank since it's a little small and he has a definite size advantage on the others in his tank.
My favorite species is N. anomala which I'll be getting this month. Ask me then so I can give a truly experienced answer to tell you that they are my favorite.
They're one of the few types of cichlids I don't have too much experience with, however, with the few I have owned, my favorite was the Bolivian Ram. Yeah, I know it's kinda lame and its kinda like the second place trophy to the German Blue to most people. I just really liked it.
Those are nice. I like more of the uncommon/unusual types personally.
Yeah they aren't exactly the most uncommon lot of cichlids see they. Seems like when most people first go buy dwarf cichlids, they go get Rams. Either that or Apistos. Which are pretty neat too. Just don't seem quite as pretty in my opinion.
I had a midas years ago that was insane, but currently my most aggressive would be my Nandopsis haitiensis, or Black Nasty. They're extremely rough on each other from what I've experienced. Even at very small sizes. Probably the meanest fish I've ever kept except the five star general, but they're African.
