MFK's Official Minitank - Rebuild (ZERO NITRATE)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And this...... is why I can't fill the chamber in the back with foam.. :screwy: (16oz can next to the plant for size reference)

The two biggest pieces were on the far right side and looked lop sided so I cut the big plant into about 6 pieces so I could even out the placement in the tank.

The plant itself is 24" tall and including roots is roughly 37" tall

I actually tried planting the tallest directly in the substrate but it looks like I am going to need to wait a while (another 8" or so) before I can plant it directly in the substrate.

I am leaving this tank open top so I love how the plants hang over the top of the tank. They will rest on top of new LED light and help hide it. The tank itself will be very well lit but have a really natural feel.

The sand and stones look far better IMO than they did before. I still need to go pick up a new heater though. I have lots of extra manzanita I will mess around with over the next few days to see how it looks before I get the new lights. I just dumped everything back in the tank so nothing has been scaped yet..

I need to hide the spray bar better too. I think I will run the pothos in front of it for the time being until everything fills in.

great tank, this inspired me to stick some pothos in a hob filter a few weeks ago, it's doing well so far

Thanks Colin. I promise your love the pothos after a while. Growing external plants has become really rewarding. Just be careful and check the root system often. They grow really fast and can jam up an impeller in less than a week. (trust me :()

I already love them and have been looking at getting some different strains online. And thanks for the tip :)

Of course bro! Dumb as it sounds, walmart has a number of different strains that are dirt cheap. Good to experiment with and you get to see/feel them in person. I have noticed that the harder the leaves are, the easier it is to convert them to aquatic use.

I have a number of plants I am going to try to convert over to aquatic use on my 120 gallon that I pick up here and there to play with.

Start on thread and post some pics (or feel free to add a few here), I'd love to see! :D

Pics from tonight! The kids are stoked on this guy.. The pics don't do the blue eyes justice. Now I just need to find a trust worthy source on bettas and find him a female. :naughty: He looks like a tiny channa..

This has left me speechless Justin! WELL DONE!!!!! :D :D :D

Thanks Al! :D Stay tuned I got more coming. Keep an eye out for another thread or two as well. My 120 gallon and 125 gallon are "going under the knife" in the next week or so. :headbang2

Lights shipped overnight this morning, I just got confirmation :headbang2 on a more crappy note, the 2211 clogged up after day #1. There was a TON of vegitation and film etc.. from all of the roots, I kind of expected that TBH. I wasn't expecting to see any sand in the filter though?

I ditched the two fine sponges in the top and just put the substrat PRO in a media back to keep things flowing.. I ordered a solid cylinder shape foam sponge today to cevert this filter over to 100% MECHANICAL. i'll just move over the substrat PRO to one of the FX5's aroiund the house.
