Lovely fish, also like your jewel...
Love them as they look so sweet and cute and then turn quite vicious...at least mine do...

Thanks, the minute i put the jewel in it had a face off with the midas even though the midas was so much larger and probably could have murdered the jewel in a whim. gutsy little fish.

nice looking tank and decorations, what type of plants?

Thanks, the plants are exo-terra silk plants for vivariums. a sucker at the top holds it in place.

at snack time for the fish this afternoon i got a real good look at the midas' vent and from what ive read it appears to be female. I will get pics when i move house and post them just to make sure but as of now "it" is a she.

some pics for June. she is doing well, getting some nice red shading on her pectoral area which looks nice, especially when she gets in a mood and the bars get really bold.
no jewel now, it was playing too rough when attempting to mate with my wives female convict. considered a male con but i know that will mean even worse trouble than the jewel brought.
surprisingly the midas has been very well behaved, she gets a bit moody if anyone goes in her spot or steals from her food stash but other than that no aggression.
because of the great behaviour with tankmates i dont know if i should add a replacement for the jewel. no mentions of tank size pls as i will upgrade if needed.

:(well, RIP chinese algae eater. it picked one fight too much with the midas who went beserk on it and unfortunately killed it. in the past couple of weeks it had decided that it was a good idea to constantly venture into the midas' shelter and start to latch on to her. i saw no dietry needs in its diet that would warrant it latching onto other fish and thought after a few tellings off it would learn.
i have no pics, sorry to all the ghouls out there. i was more concerned with getting the body out and cleaning the mess before it did damage to my water chemistry.
here is updated pics of the killer who unleashed all her midas fury tonight, impressive for a 7" fish.

there was the chinese algae eater which she killed and there was a jewel that was tearing up the wifes female convict when they were trying to mate so that went to a new home.

she now has a senegal bichir and 4 female convicts as tank mates. only the most dominant female con confronts the midas but fights never happen now just some flaring. the bichir lives with the midas in her cave, which she surprisingly allows.

i guess ive never seen a big chinese algae eater haha, just looked diffrent to me. very nice!
