Mild cichlids breaking the mold

Hi everyone, this post is open to everyone (not just American cichlids) so feel free to tell your friends to post their stories. Let’s talk about cichlids that break the mold. I’m talking about one that should be hyper aggressive (dovii, umbee, buttikoferi etc) but are mild mannered or even timid. Also something like mean discus, we all know how onerous angels can get. I know that these are the “shameful secrets” that nobody wants to talk about. Who wants to hear about a dovii or umbee that’s not constantly banging glass or tearing up everything. Well here’s your chance. One more thing is it doe-vee, doe-vee-eye or doe-vye? I do like the name rainbow bass however.

So I’ll start us off. I once had a buttikoferi that would chew up food for his/her feeders.

Not very experienced with cichlids, so I can't trade any stories about exceptional individuals, but how you pronounce dovii depends on whether you prefer classical Latin or Anglo-Latin.

If you showed the name to a Roman, he would pronounce it doe-vee, but nowadays doe-vee-eye is the more common version for English speakers. See here for a more detailed comparison. Other languages like Japanese and Turkish still maintain the doe-vee pronunciation.
