It's important to note too, that while Bellator isn't huge, they are getting great ratings right now.

I think this could end up being a pretty big move if they get it done.
They were talking about it last night on the Bellator broadcast, and Bjorn said that Coker had not returned his call, but I would guess if Gil is already responding to the Alvarez rumors, it will probably get done.

I think it is Strikeforce who has the tv deal with CBS and they don't seem to be as behind them as Spike is with the UFC.

I think this is a big part of UFC not having to co promote and doing what they want presentation wise. Spike seems to give UFC a wide birth and welcomes working with them. They know if done right mma can equal ratings. Also I don't think they don't try to change what mma is.

If I recall Strikeforce doesn't use elbows because of CBS. Elbows can equal big cuts, sometimes. Imagine if Gina Carano got elbowed in the face when Cyborg took her down and came up a bloody mess. While fans might like this, the casual viewer, who hasn't seen mma could be turned off. This makes CBS look bad which, would lead to poor ratings which, leads to lost ad money which would turn into no mma on network tv.

Why would CBS look bad? Because most people still think of mma as a brutal sport and are turned off by blood. However its popular so they want to cash in. So, they will try to protect that money so they will change the mma they show. Imo, CBS is a family network for people who's only exposure to combat sports is NFL Football and I am sure everyone knows how they changed that game for network tv.

For the record I do think co promotion is a good thing with the smaller promotions. They have limited talent pools and its good to have fighters test their skills against someone their level. Also I would take Gilbert over Alvarez. :)

Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Hughes @ UFC 117

Nice fight for Ricardo to get back near the top tier.

Nelson vs dos santos also setup to fight on this card. Kinda bummed out since I'm a fan of both guys. Didn't wanna see roy fight jr yet. Roy got his hands full, jds is a beast and should take this fight. But roy has the power to stop this with one punch. Other than that I don't see how roy will win.

At first I didn't like the Nelson vs Dos Santos but the more I thought about it grew on me. JDS is a contender but really doesn't have anyone at the top tier to fight right now. Nelson has wins but not over any big name, the same could be said of JDS though. Mir is the only fight I could see UFC giving either of them but that isn't happening. So in the end the fight makes sense and it should be a good one. They both have power and I see this as a stand up war. However, Big Country's weight could play a factor if it does go to the ground and JDS can't get up. I pick Nelson but won't be upset if JDS takes it. I just hope its a good fight.

Dos Santos has to be the heavy favorite in this fight.
Roy has a good shot, but Junior's record is actually pretty good.
The problem is, the UFC gave Carwin the "title" shot first only because he ran his mouth about Brock running his mouth after UFC 100. Carwin is the one who shouldn't be at the top right now (record-wise, he obviously proved he has talent). The way it should have went down is, Cain should have fought Mir, and then Brock, and Dos Santos should have fought Carwin, and then Dos Santos would have taken on the winner of Brock and Cain, then you wouldn't be in this mess with guys at the top who have to wait around for fights.

BTW, Dos Santos's record is far superior to Nelson's, and stacks up with almost anybody in the heavyweight class right now. That doesn't predict the outcome, but Dos Santos is deserving of a better fight than this at this point.

I totally agree with this^. But, with who they have available to fight, this was the best match up. I think if JDS looses, his stock falls a lot more than Roy's.

I agree about JDS's stock falling, this could be a huge swing fight if Roy can win.

As far as the fight scheduling aspect, I think the only guy really that JDS could have fought was Frank Mir, but he would likely have to wait a little while, but Roy has a ton of guys he could have fought, I mean, he only has one win, here's some guys, Todd Duffee, Gonzaga, Kongo, Rothwell, or Yvel.
