Monster Tank Detractors..The Haters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Everyone tells me my fish looks good to eat and they also say the chinese resteraunt too.

When we moved my tanks to my girl friends house when I got deploied, her house mate would always come in and shake his head... Not to mention that he was convinced that the floor would collapse.

He's starting to be ok with it. last thing i heard he ws talking about getting a fish of his own. I think it was a lion fish too... Strange how the sickness spreads. That seems to happen to everyone I hang out with...

Wow, does this hit home. One of my girl friends thinks that my sea robin is the most ugliest creature alive, but I still love my lil fella'.

What bothers me is when people say I should get a fluffy dog instead because fish are boring and all you can do is look at them. I say mehhhh, and reach back and slap them with my pimp hand. :)

I would get the fluffy dog, but I don't think that all of the hair would be good for the fishies digestive tract... Thats why I only feed short hair breeds.

I have only been allowed to have 10 gallons here at home. I'm 23 now and a year away from my own place, so I can't wait to have a number of tanks in my apartment. My mother is rather hostile towards my fish keeping habit and has a tendency to say things like "Not everyone's life revolves around fish!" when I do things as simple as water changes. I don't get what the big deal is. They bought my very first 10 gallon back when I was 9, but once I was 14 and working, I was paying for my own hobby. I guess it does take up some electric and water, but compared to my sisters 45 minute showers and hours spent drying her hair (not to mention designer clothes!) I am downright cheap!!

My girlfriend, fortunately, finds my habit adorable. I've tried pointing out to her that once it is OUR $50 being spent at the fish store, it won't be quite so adorable, but she just smiles and kisses me. I am hoping that once we live together I can set her up a decent sized tank. She likes those castles and treasure chests, which I fail to appreciate. But get this-- while I am quite appreciative of smaller tetras and barbs, my girl is totally into tank busters!!! It's insane! I sent her a link to a website and said "What fish on here do you like?" And she was picking out African Cichlids, Blood Parrots, Jack Dempseys and Jaguar Cichlids. I laughed and said a prayer of thanks to have met her.

Most of my friends never come over my house, so they never see my tanks. I am a HS teacher and have set up a variety of tanks at school, so everyone there knows me as "the fish person." So yeah, that's great. I get people who stop to admire the tanks, and others say "I don't know how you do it. It's too expensive/much work!" The students like the tanks though, and that is really all that matters, you know?

I have several tanks, and what bothers more than the people who say stupid things are the people who ignore them or say something fakey, like, "oh, fishies, how nice." How anyone can fail to enjoy a nice aquarium is beyond me...

Yea, some people always ask where is the frying pan, or where is the fishing poles! Others are amazed by the size of them, most of the guests are as enthused as I am. i love starting new people into the hobby!
