More still borns. What am I doing wrong?

Just a stab in the dark but could it just be stress related to so much activity in the big tank? Maybe not even have anything to do with water chemistry or quality.

Stress induced prior to even seeing movement before being moved out of the 750? Once movement was confirmed they were immediately moved to their own 180 on that system. A 6x2 for a pair of 10" and 11" female Marbles- nothing else in the tank. Not sure where the stress would come from? I'd assume if there was an issue prior to seeing movement then once moved wouldn't the pups' movement stop if there was issues? Both pups were flawless fat lil buggers with no trace of sacks...... The one that was curled makes me think it was born alive, but then died before I got home.....

With your stellar bio setup wouldn't you be able to easily cut your drip by half with no negative consequences?

What if the crazy amount of food makes a spike that even a filter of this magnitude takes a while to process? No biggie for adult rays but harmful to delicate pups?

The messed up part is even if tested after feeding I've never seen any Ammonia.....

Anyone have newborn pups on a system that sees 2+lb feedings? I know many of you use floating pup tanks, but are any of you feeding this much food at once?

My goof Al, forgot you moved them to the 180 after seeing movement!

I bet you still need to get your tds down more. I would pm calgary and ask him what number you need to be at. In the past few vids you posted of the fish eating frogs etc all your fish looked alot more healthy then all your past vids. I thought you were on the right track getting your numbers down

Imo 99% of problems we have are always related water quality

Not to hijack or change the subject but is there a preferred type of tds/conductivity meter that I should get or is a cheapie ok? I haven't had pups since my last disaster but I can check my water just for comparison...

American Marine is what was recommended to me by a very reliable source. I went with one and am very happy with it.

For TDS I just use what came with my RO. I chose to watch conductivity over TDS cause the guy that recommended the TDS meter had numbers obtained from the wild to compare to....... Scary stuff...... lol

Mine is all one big system but ya I feed about that or more. Hard to say as I try to not pay attention anymore. Lol
Tds in all my tanks as they are all tied together are the same more or less but I put the tester in each -Tds 226-230ppm

Do you ever clean your non moving media? Wonder if a bunch of junk and what could be built up in it that might cause anything.

Wish I was close by, would love to throw my apex to see the pH swings on your tank over a few days. Just to see if anything shows up or not.

I'd love to get TDS/conductivity down but dripping RO and tap is playing with fire. Even 20 minutes of tap could swing the whole systems PH 2.0. Way better off premixing, and getting that dialed in on float valves, then doing small dailies. But room for a system like this won't be easy when room is already very scarce. I think all ray keepers agree consistancy trumps ideal with fluctuations. All the fish seem happy, rays seem happy, yet pups die. Everything aside from pups is going great. I just pulled a Marble I've had for 6-7 years out of the 750 - preggo for the first time. Henleo came out as well. Just puzzles me why I have so much trouble with pups on what seems to be fairly healthy systems otherwise. Heck I have larger Armatus then I've ever had, actually almost all of the fish in this problamatic system is the largest I've ever grown aside from the Brycon and rays.

The thing is meanwhile all these issues on the big system seem to only involve this system. The smaller systems have had healthy pups with zero losses. Pups born on 2 other systems.......

Do you think maybe moving the females is the problem.Perhaps you would do better moving the males or moving the females before they show movment. I leave my rays in with the male for birthing and have had zero still borns.

I moved my female while pregnant multiple times with no issues. I couldn't see the move itself being the issue. I even dosed a preggo ray with prazi at 5x normal dosage and pup was born perfectly healthy. I was dealing with super touchy retics to boot. So basically, my experience makes me think that this is not stress related whatsoever given Al's description of his setup and circumstances.
