More still borns. What am I doing wrong?

perhaps your looking at this the wrong way then.
you design an engine for a bus and it works great.
you stick that engine in a mini and you struggle to get round corners in one peice.

what you have works well for what it was designed for. maybe you need to worry less about it working for everything (i.e.would you downgrade the bus engine so that you could drive the mini properly at the expense of the usability of the bus or would you design a different system for the mini and have both working well ?).

you have been successful and know how to be successful with both your large and independant systems but you seem to be more concerned about the large filtration system than the pups that are dying because of it.

your lucky that you are able to produce pups and you know how to keep them alive as well so well done for that.
i guess its up to you what system you keep the pups on but its a no brainer to me.

good luck buddy i hope you work it out if you continue to keep pups on the big system (perhaps you could just use one pup at a time as a guinea pig rather than a full litter if thats how you want to do it) and i hope it eventually helps us all with the results of your findings as im sure it will be very useful information.

just to add so it doesnt sound like im putting you down. ive tried different filtration systems myself and ive built my own reactors and filters in the past. ive unfortunately lost my fair share of rays too im sad to say.
good luck and i do wish you and your fish well.

You're right..... Just thought maybe there was something I'm overlooking or something I could be testing for.

Have already moved a preggo Marble and Henleo out of the big system and to the smaller system and a separate tank, hopefully I'll have better luck going this route. Unfortunately I had to move a total of 8 rays to make these 2 females happy off the big system.

Keeping preggo rays off the big system and having enough room for everyone will prove to be a challenge and a problem that will likely end up resulting in even more tanks/tubs/ponds. Not fun.

Thank you for the kind words though. I appreciate it.

Yes. Smaller ones get netted then dropped in a tub on the way to a different tank. Larger ones are just carried in the net. I wouldn't think they're ever out of the water more then like 5 seconds or so...

Maybe try not removing them from the water. I've had breeders tell me to never expose pups under a couple months old to air.

The knowledge you guys possess and the thought you put into this process is remarkable.

If all these rays and fish live and thrive is it possible it's the fish themselves? Maybe some sort of genetic issue? Other rays have had pups that survived right?

I thought you meant the adults. Pups aren't taken out of the water. Moved like a puffer. Directed into a bowl of some sort then usually snap a few pics then a quick drip and into the pup tank.

if it helps at all . i dont have drip and the other successfull breeders i know of dont use a drip either (im only talking marbles here and i dont know of many tbh) although i beleive t1/richard (user on here with non marbles) uses a drip successfully and has bred rays too on the system with the drip ( might need checking).

we're in a different country though so im not sure it will matter that much or be relevant enough.
