Most aggresive Fresh water cat fish???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont know if I'm qualified to vote, having owned just the "common" monster cats (tsn, rtc, lima and an armored cat) but based on looks and the smallish amount of info I can find on a yarelli (post #17 by necrocanis in the monster catfish sticky) leaves me inclined to think it much nastier than a attu.

Is this supposed to be agression to people, or other fish? If it is towards other fish I had a RTC one time that couldn't live with anyone. He killed all of his tank mates. He would try to eat them no matter what size they were. He was a little over 24" and ate a 19" large mouth bass, he also tried to eat my 14" oscar, but it was too tall and killed it. He killed a tsn that was the same length, he even killed a 18" pleco. He ate a few pirranahs that my buddy didn't want anymore, and he would slam into the glass so hard I thought he would go threw it a couple of times. I fed him garter snakes, mussels, rats, birds, tomatoes, ect..... Point being I think this is subjective. There are individuals of every species that are either way agressive or way docile. I have a 12" oscar that would rather run from a 2" minnow than eat it or compete with it for food on the top, and a 6" albino oscar that kicks his @$$ all the time. lol. I also have a 9" lima shovel nose that thinks he's the boss of everyone in the tank and viciously attacks anything that gets close to him, even my 14" lima. But my rtc x tsn hybrid lives happily with other catfish of any size, but he'll eat minnows and suckers that are 14". He's an oddball for sure. My planiceps is currently the nastiest fish i own. Every time my hand goes in the tank with him he either bites the crap out of me, or trys to stick me with he pectorial spines.

I got my one from Richard at Wharf Aquatics in Pinxton, UK. He is about 32" now and like a Clarius on steroids. Richard has one that is bigger but I dont know if there are anymore in the country. He is shortly to go in a 10' x 4' x 3' definitely on his own!! When i feed him i dont open the glass out all the way as he will come staright out. He has banged me a couple of times but luckily I had my hand palm down so he couldnt hold on.

Pics Please:drool:

Has anyone had the wyckii catfish with other catfish? I have 2 rtc, 2 planniceps, 1 tsn 1 ahcara cat, 1 spotted shovelnose they are all between 9-18in. Could I put a 8in wyckii in there. The tank is a 210. I know they will need bigger real soon. Any help? I also have 3 8in. peacock bass.

I had one before.. It just couldn't tolerate any of it tankmates, fight with the big STs and almost kill my 18" ornate bircher. At that time, it's just about 10"... So w/o other choice, I gave it away after 3 days in my tank..
My advice.. keep it alone in a big tank and I will definately keep one if I have space for more tanks:D

i think bargarious yarelli (sp?)

blue cats arent very aggressive, there more passive compared to asian and SA catfish. lb for lb a bullhead is more aggressive than a blue.

nobody said TSN. there pretty nuetral but ive seen some very aggressive ones during breeding and when kept with other large bottomdwelers like other TSN and RTC.
whattabut Asian RTC?

Thanks for the advice. I can't believe they are so aggressive. What did you feed him?
