Most impressive home aquarium fish...

One question I had?, wouldnt a good group of interesting big fish be more exciting than just a few of the less sociable big fish? For me this big group would be more stunning, exciting, interesting.

Depends on what kind of fish it is and what the tank looks like. A single large fish like a Jardini in a planted tank that's well scaped looks very impressive.

a black tipped shark for a saltwater tank and a giant rhombeus in freshwater. If the tank is big enough, go with an arapaima.

Have to agree, anything large and responsive. People tend to be impressed by something that isn't the traditional fish shape too - I mean an oscar is cool, and has lots of personality, but everyone has seen one. Non fishkeepers are usually wowed even by my little 9" BGK - nevermind an adult CK or something. People tend to love my large plecos too. a very large fire eel is tough to beat for the "holy crap" factor from fishkeepers and non fishkeepers alike.

well if its alot of people that dont often keep fish id have to say, a brightly coloured mooray eel or a large lionfish always gets the looks

i think saltwater sharks along with moray eels would capture everyone's attention.
and both types of stingrays.
also a 10' pirarucu will be fun to look at for hours

of course that would be a big tank!
