Moving a Glass 125?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well we got the tank. Got it about halfway in the hall and then we had to grab a dolly, my shoulders and lack of sleep did me in. The seals look good but it freaked me out abl bit. The guy resealed it a while ago and got the silicone to where it looks like a rimless tank. No bubbles thankfully. The stand is great, made of real solid wood. Just the floor in here is sloped. Freakin slum.

Ugh felt like a bish. We leveled the stand as much as possible, hope it will be ok. Gunna try to move the tank more over the support beams. My arms are already jello. Cooking tomorrow should be fun. Oh lawd. Legs are fine tho, didn't feel anything burning haha.

Gunna make that orange juice in the freezer n make me a fancy drink.

What, no go pro of the experience? Unlikely story;-D

Sorry for the lack of pics. Took a long long time to get the tank level enough to fill. We had to shim it with wood planks and composite shims. I will stuff cardboard nd old magazines folded under there too underneath the middle parts. All the main supports are shimmed just having a few floating spaces is making me uneasy. Yeesh.

All the fish are all in there. Unfortunately the hood has a lip all the way around so I couldn't use it and my hob filters. It's out on the patio, hope the rain won't warp it. I might hack the lip off that side. Or I will sell the hobs. Not sure. I'll upload pics.

Sorry for the lack of pics so far. Stuff has gotten crazy. Here are a few good ones I took so far:

This place is a mess.

OH. Picked up a baby jack dempsey. I also got 3 baby convicts for free, been watching a pair they had have babies for the last few months lol. 3.50 at petco. Hope they will grow somewhat huge and breed with my other cons haha.

Anyway I'm a bit concerned. I can't access the back of the tank at all through the stand, and there is only enough holes in the plywood on the back for ONE canister and ONE powerstrip.... This is starting to piss me off. UGH. I want to slap another canister on there if I can't modify the hood and I need to access the back of the stand anyway in case something falls back there or I need to do whatever. Yet another trip to home depot again to find some sort of small saw.

Here is a pic of what I'm talking about. Is it safe to create more holes in the wood here? (gotta fiix that power strip and add a second one too.) Looks like it was just cosmetic but it seems to be one big 6ft plywood across the back. Starting to think this whole tank was a diy... kinda sketchin me out here (also that wood shaving that fell off I think... GREAT.) Should I drain the tank down to half? I have to anyway to do more rocks and put the substrate in today. Do you think I can just get rid of that back wood completely? Ugh. PMS is making this even worse. I swear I'm just gunna fry these fish up and give the fiance a good yelling at for him letting me get this thing haha....

Looks great!! Nice upgrade :)

I think you'd be fine to poke a bigger hole in the plywood on the back of the stand. It is probably not weight bearing, but rather is serving the purpose of cleaning up the look of the stand and controlling any twisting of the stand.

If you like power tools, poking a hole in the back of the stand's plywood is a great job for a sawsall (reciprocating saw):

If you are on a budget, you can get the same effect with a a jab saw:

Or drill new holes instead of expanding the existing hole if you have a drill... you'll probably want a spade bit unless you are going to run pipe. Then you'll need hole saw bits.

Ah. Thanks. I will head to the homme despot then. Gunna load up on coffee again though, haha. Been running on that for like 4 days straight.

I will see if I can do a quick hike down the block to the park for some rocks, and then put the rest of the gravel in, I'll get some picks of the fish too if they decide to color up. Most are muted, I think because they can see through to the bottom of the stand since the tank is bare. The salvinis were almost swimming upside down for a bit thinking "Wtf is this? Why am I floating higher off the ground?" haha.

Well sorry for the lack of an update, here's a few pics. I picked up a HUGE driftwood centerpiece at aquatic warehouse for 60 bucks. Waiting for it to sink. Oh lawd the tannins. Makes the tank look freaky haha.

Still a WIP on the decor. I will get more rocks and maybe silicone some actual caves together. For sure I will be getting some new low maintinance plants when I get the lighting set up. It's a glo ballast with some t5 bulbs, they guy gave me them. Looks like it was just suspended on hooks in the canopy before so I have no idea how I will rig it up. If it doesn't work I'll get some leds, maybe those cheap ikea strips.

The next things I need to do are pick up another big pot since the convicts already stole one (hoping for eggs today!), and some lid making stuff from the homie despot. Not sure if I will use that greenhouse siding stuff. Gotta get the lid on to prevent evaporation and possible jumpers. Then I will work on the canopy. I also have to get a canister, not sure if I should drop the bucks for an fx6 or 2 smaller ones or what. The fiance wants one but it's so much money and there's no way it will fit in the stand or on my shelf, so I will need to build a thing just for it. Been thinking of an eheim too, not sure which one though. The main thing is it just needs a big turnover rate and I would prefer a lot of biomedia in there. Or I will get a big giant air pump and run more sponges.

Oh and there's a few pics of the new blood parrot. 10 bucks and FUHGLLLAAAAAY, couldn't pass him up! I saw him there a few weeks ago and he didn't get sold so yup. He is pretty curious and a little shy, I think he will be a good fish. Hope he will live for a long time despite the ol' deformed hybridization. Ugh he's so ugly he's cute.

I have a baby sun cat in the 29, I couldn't get a good pic. Once he bulks up a bit he will be going in there too. Yay! Maybe I do need that fx6....... Hopefully by the time he gets a bit bigger we will be moved with a 300 gallon or something bahaha.
