My 1200g indoor pond build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If there is a hole, patch kits are cheap and easy to use. Just use purple primer(or similar) to clean the liner prior to adhering the patch.

well i just vacced up another couple gallons, i got a new liner on the way and im going to patch the old one and use it as a second layer, just going go be a PITA getting the 200lbs of sand out of it

going to go get ten 55g plastic drums and save as much water as possible

also the fish pulled my finnex digital heat controller into the pond today, it was mounted on a support beam near the pond, another $50 to replace that, ordered today and will be here thursday, i hope it doesnt get too cold for them by then

having a pretty good stream of bad luck it seams

new controller hooked up today, pond only lost 8 degrees in 2 days, the insulation was worth it

still leaking water and i got the new liner today, wont be able to attempt to switch them out until this weekend

1. Multiple Liners = Great idea. I got a couple of layers myself. Let me give you my theory of why it's leaking buddy, one word those darn = PACUs. They must have chewed on your liner as they chew on just about everything else.

2. Substrate. I started my pond with lots of different "corners" with big rocks, pots, petrified wood, small pebbles etc, I have since taken out 90% of what I put in as I realized that pond/tank decor are just prime real estate for poop and other matter to congregate. The less "stuff" in your pond, the easier to clean.

Good luck with the liner switch, that'll be a fun day for you;)

Will agree with keeping the bottom bare makes it easier to keep clean. I have just a few large rocks and bits of wood in my intex pool and as long as those items are lifted occasionally then all the poop ends up in the filter. Was originally thinking of using light coloured tiles when my 1000g pond build is finished to show the the fish up from the surface and easier to keep clean than that amount of sand.

well i might have some good news, as the water lowers from evap and the leak it has slowed extreamly so im going to continue to let the water level lower and then look for a spot where the pacus could of bit it, i have a spot that i think would be easy for them

and as for substrate, i chose sad because it doesnt catch poo like rocks and gravel, the way i have the flow set up the poo rolls right across the sand and into the pump

update, all of the water has basicly dried up, going to start investigating for leaks in the next couple days, with the holiday and other projects around the house im strapped for time, also going to attempt to start the electrical exclusively for the pond instead of using various plug ins for everything

Try to give the pond it's own circuit, it will give you many fewer headaches.

The way you found the leak is the best way (outdoors at least). If the pond allows, turn off the pumps and let it drain til it hits the leak. You can just run a small powerhead in the bottom of the pond for cirulation and keep BB alive. GL with the fix.
