Thanks!

I can get one for 90 dollars at 8 inches.

I've never had one before, what's your experience? Active fish?

Edit:

Was not easy to take the driftwood out and place them in the same order as before, I spent maybe 30 mins doing it, just wouldn't stay in place, but a few stones and fishing line did do the job.

Also got a extra heater now, so I have a total of 450w of heating, but replacing them in a month with Eheim heaters, and using these as backup.

Also I'm very curious about how ill do with algae during filter cycling, I'm going to have a lot of plants, but they are all slow growers. Light will be on for 6 hours a day until fish(es) arrive, then I'll go up to 8.

I'm thinking of having a one hour of lights off during the day to prevent algae.

Still selecting fish is the hardest part.

Lots of small colorful community fish, a few medium sized fish or one/two big fish.

I need a bigger place and more tanks.....

I'm in UK but 90 dollars is a good price for an 8" jar ATM they've gone up in price loafs in last five years , I think a lot of that is to do with shipping and transport
I've kept jardini for the past eight years now , they are one of the ultimate predators IMO
Average size 20/24" , 90% of them are mean as hell but you could get lucky ;) I've always had tankmates with mine but lost loads trying to fine what works , big cats work best IMO
They will bite and strip plants occasionally out of boredom but nothing like cichlids (digging them up etc)
Diet of pellets once trained , raw prawns/shrimps , muscles , whitebait , stay clear of feeder fish they carry disease and its hadprd to get them off it once hooked same with silkworms its like fish crack :D

If you look through a few of my threads there's loads more info , I can't really think what else off the to of my head that you won't already know lol ;)

If you like planted tanks and your interested in maybe just getting one big fish go with a channa (snakehead). If I were you I would get a Channa Marulioides or a Channa Melanoptera which one you like more and they love tank with very dense vegetation.

Your tank would look a little like this one:

Or a channa pleuro, they have the best colors IMO

I'll look into jardinis, seems like an interesting and a new experience for me.

And speaking of snakeheads, I used to own a small group of channa obscuras 8 years ago.

IMO the best looking snakehead, although relatively small, a bit reclusive. Had sort of the same setup, but smaller tank.

I'm just going to buy another fish book to browse through in order to get some more ideas.

I might just get it planted and up and running, and borrow a 7 inch clown knife fish and see how i feel about it from my work, luckily I work at a pet shop and I'm responsible for the aquarium part (it's a small shop and we mostly sell community fish, but I try to bring in some specials now and then, getting some butterflyfish and tetra gar on Friday). Big thanks to my boss for giving me the tank and the fx6! It was not easy to get it inside my place, I honestly thought it was not going to work.

Adding photos of today's work.

I've installed pump, and about half the plants. Working for 7 hours after my actual work on this tank today.

Need a quick break, then I'll add the rest of the plants.

I hope you enjoy and remember this is a work in progress.

An Eheim uv sterilizer and pump is my next purchase.

And I've started to cycle, added some ammonia just now (15ml) and tomorrow I'll get some filter junk from my bosses fx5 in order to kick start this baby.

I will shortened one of the hoses for optimal flow.

So any feedback is welcome, and I'll continue after some pizza and soda.

Bonus:
This just in at work:

Sorry about poor picture and algae, but that back wall is coarse and hard to clean, I've used steelwool, but that only got me this far.

Also BIG thanks to my boss for donating this brand new tank and fx6.

I'll probably not use all of the remaining plants, might be to much, I'll add some to the nano tank.

Whatever's left I'll just hide in the back of the tank or just have them in their pots while the tanks cycling.

Filter hums a little, which might be annoying, but I think it's probably the hoses are touching the cabinet and causing vibrations. Will check it tomorrow.
