My 190 gallon tank - suggestions are welcomed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
leopard bush fish like someone said earlier would be nice for the middle? personally i would stick with fish from the same continant although my tanks currently have a mish mash i know i would prefere a biotope type setup personally!-)

I prefer biotope on paper, but some of the fishes I need for maintenance, such as the bristle nose plecos and sae, and I really want the hujera gars.

I was looking into the leopard fish earlier today, stunning looking fish.

Would the juwels go well with anyone of these fish I've mentioned, polys included.

If they arent well fed plecos and algae eaters will suck on a bichirs slime coat doing pretty bad damage, I'd avoid those. Hill stream loach won't suck on them but they aren't compatible with the water. The UV should take care of most of the algae as long as you don't overfeed you shouldn't get much at all

I've kept those algae balls for around 3 months, no problems at all, I just squeeze them with each water change to remove bristle nose poop.

Ok, so this is another thought:

2-3 polys
8-9 Congo tetras
2-4 jewel cichlids
2-3 leopard fish

These are all African, maybe one or two butterfly fish

This is like a personal reminder for my self to keep track of different setups.

And maybe some loaches as a clean up crew, or African catfish...

Again thanks a lot to everyone for ideas. And specially to the person who warned me of the Nicaragua cichlids.

3 ideas:

1:
Hujeta gar
Sae
Bristlenose pleco
Angelfish
Geophargus

2:
Polys
Jewel cichlids
Bristlenose
Hujeta gar
Sae

3:
Dwarfcichlids
Corydoras
Angelfish
Bristle nose plecos
Hujeta gar
Sae/ottos

Basically I'm getting the hujeta gars...
And some bristle nose.. And sae or ottos for algae..

I can't leave ctenopoma and polys out of any of my tanks lol, I would include those, a hujeta gar, and otos for algae, small enough to be eaten and just replace once in a while. I used to do that but now I just scrub it with a tool.

I don't think it'll be a biotope tank.

I'm closing in on these fish:

Geophagus Orange Top
Torpedo Barbs
SAE
Bristlenose plecos
Hujeta Gar

Maybe some others, perhaps a shoal of something, but not sure.
I think it would be too crowded with anything else.

I'll start with the algae-eaters.
Add the Geo's, and then see what i think.

And considering Leopard Ctenopoma if i can get hold of one.

I'm really starting to love the Geo's, they really look good.
But.. it seems like I can only get them when they are about 1 inch.
Which to me seems awfully small, and perhaps very fragile.
So im asking the supplier to see if i can them at 2-3 inches, i'm awaiting their reply.

New supplies have arrived!!

Will post pictures when I'm done.

Eheim 600 + Eheim 11w uv
+ a lot of fertilizers.

Can't wait to get home, only half hour of work left.
